I agree there should be a charge for installing the retrofit, but $100 is pretty steep for 10 minutes of work. That charge is totally ridiculous.

Dometic just confirmed that all new 9100 Power Awning hardware will have the spring loaded arms. Only the older need retrofitted. Doug

The rain problem can be solved very easily on the A&E Dometic 9100 power awning. I have one and went to the RH end of the awning (which in our case was the one next to the door we seldom use)and removed the motor, cut 2" off the end, re-drilled the support for the motor and re-installed the motor. This automatically creates a 5"-6" tilt to the awning which eliminates all drain problems. Have pictures of the mod. @ http://good-times.webshots.com/album/564190244iZjPIF
The whole mod. takes about 30 minutes and works beautifully and it is all automatic.

Several people have emailed me saying that after they read and saw my modification that they made the same mod. and were delighted at the results.

Boy, ya'll have me wondering about mine now. Not sure of the model, but it is an A&E. Mine has gas struts on each end. I have pulled down on end of roller and the system seems to have some give in the struts. I assume this is the method designed to flex with weight of water to allow dumping. Is this the way some of yours are made? I agree with most though, when heavy rain or wind is expected I don't chance it. Roll it up, even if it is a pain to have to take down the lights. jf

Well after lots of pictures and phone calls, A&E will warranty the fabric for me which is very stretched and ripped. Most of the new Rockwoods came through with the economy model that does not dip, the dealer told me the retrofit is coming and is expected to come to them in the spring. Anyone use any of the support arms and keep tension in the awning?

A awning definitely needs to tilt to be of any use in our North American environment. I can't imagine having to pull in the awning because it raining, that's when I appreciate an awning the most. We have the Carefree Eclipse and it is adjustable at both ends and works great.

The Eclipse looks pretty good. Better than the piece of junk I have.
