We are contemplating a trip to Guatemala this winter and would be interested in hearing from anyone who has driven their RV that far south. We understand gas is much cheaper but roads are a concern for us.
We'd like to hear of your experiences.

I just realized I posted this in the wrong spot - if anyone knows how to move my posting to the Mexico and S.America forum I would appreciate it.

We are in the same situation as Tripalot. We want to take a peek into Guatemala as well and have heard that the roads are simply not set up for RVs and that there are very few, if any, RV parks. We have tentatively decided to leave the MH on the Mexico side of the border and take the toad down for a few days in a hotel. This will give us a chance to have a good look and to determine if future trips could include the MH.

We have been travelling in Central America and ,in particular Guatemala the last three years in a Pleasure-way Traverse.I think smaller is better in CA but not impossible with a bigger RV. We have met several Germans with huge rigs.
Gas is more expensive than Mexico, can't precisely remember but around US prices
We camped mostly in hotel parking lots, gas stations, in front of police stations or guarded parkings lots without incident.
Major roads are surprisingly good.
Lots of great places to go; Tikal, lake Atitlan, Antigua to name a few.
Dare2go as my Aussie friends would say!

Crandle:

Be cautious as to where in Chiapis you will be leaving your MH. Forget Tapachula. It makes Juarez look like a Garden of Eden. A filthy city filled with scam artists and crooks. No RV park. If you decide to go I would leave my unit in San Cristobal in an RV park. Can one get vehicle insurance for Guatemala??

I have not checked into the insurance yet Moisheh. I assume one can as people go there all the time. If worse comes to worse, we could always take a bus to Guatemala City or Lake Atitlan or both??

Thanks for the advice re: storing the MH. I will take it to heart!
