While I was putting on the Dexter HD kit I noticed that the factory mounts for the suspension were some upside down U shaped brackets welded to the bottom of the 2x6 tube frame. The brackets are about 3/16 thick and there is a 4 inch gap from the top of the bracket to the bolt centerline for the springs. The 3 brackets on each side are about 3 inches wide with a 2 inch gap between the legs of the U (28 foot trailer with dual axles).

I thought it would be good to stiffen up these mounts so I cut some 2 inch wide 3/16 flat stock mild steel to fit in the opening of the U and weld it up. On the front and back spring mounts the added piece will be the full height welded on the outer edge so it is not interfering with spring movement. The middle mount will only be pieces 2 inches tall on both sides of the U bracket so the equalizer bracket wont hit it when it rotates.

Anyone see a problem with doing this? More rigid mounts shouldn't hurt anything as I can see.

Well I got one side welded in tonight and the pieces cut for the other side. After they are welded in I'll be ready for some rough country campin!
