We are now on Hwy.40 in Gallup,NM and heading home to Albany,NY towing a 28' 5er & hoping to arrive by 9/1. Our plan is rte. 40 to Okla. City, rte. 44 to St. Louis, rte. 70 to Indianapolis then ?
How is rte 44 for travel? We plan on 250-300 miles per day & would like at least elec. hookup because of the heat. The early route is not written in stone!
Would like suggestions on CGs with some peaceful attractions along the way. We've been on the road since late May & need some limited R&R along the way. Thanks.

If you want cut off a few miles and are not in a big hurry. Take 54 out of Tucuhcari and pick up 70 in Kansas City. It is a 65 m.p.h. road except for some small towns, plus you avoid the rough I-40 west of O.C.

We went the I44 route last year and found it to be good. We went Flagstaff to amarillo to joplin to the mississippi river to some place in ohio to Lancaster PA.
I would take I 70 into PA and then work your way north from there.
There is a loop around Okla city that will take you to I-44. No real rough road.
I drive to the campground without a Hensley hitch and get no sway...I run my Champion gen set with no complaints.....and drive home on my Carlyle tires with no blow outs.

We just drove the I-44 route (going the other way) and found it to be a decent road. Whatever you do, don't take I-40 through downtown Oklahoma City. It's bad enough in only a car, let alone towing something.
I would take I-70 to Columbus and then take I-71 to Cleveland. Then get on I-90. It's probably shorter than heading into PA then up to I-90.
