What if? Arizona does not issue a front plate. I have never been bothered in any of my journeys to Mexico, but now some of you have me wondering. What if you don't have a front plate? I do have all my plates steel pop-riveted on so they can not be removed.

You'll most likely be issued a ticket if you don't have one. BUT, if your state does NOT require a front plate, you'll be ok.

If your home jurisdiction passes on requiring a front plate, you are still good to go. In Canada, the provinces of Quebec and Alberta don't issue them and they are hassel-free in Mexico and anywhere else on this continent.

Missouri issues one plate for vehicles over 18,000 pounds gross weight and reguire that is be placed in front. Once in Arziona I was stoped by a highway partol man because I did not have a plate on the rear. I told him the vehicle was registered in Missouri and they require it be placed in the front. He said " When I am in Arizona I must follow Arizona law." I refused to move it and he ask if I had tools to remove it. I pulled out a screwdriver and he took it and moved the plate himself. I think he realized he was wrong but would not back down and did not want to give me a ticket.

We have traveled from coast to coast and PV to the border in both Sonora and Chihuahua without a front plate and never been stopped for it. I sometimes add to the mix, a novelty plate from another state, so an Officer from Mexico would really be confused, if they did watch for two plates.

Whatever the Law is in YOUR Home State
regarding 1 or 2 plates

Alberta does not require front plates but still issues two plates? My wife bought novelty plates for her 2002 Dream Cruiser (PT4 GMB) Recently she added a 2007 PT Convertable to her PT 'fleet'. We asked and were told we could not put the extra "PT4 GMB" plate we did not use onto the front of the second PT. (The convertable has a bracket on the front for a plate, the Dream Cruiser did not). I guess that would be too confusing, two official plates on a car, but different one on front than on back.
Trailer plates are interesting because you buy one for a lifetime. Good plan eh?

You won't have any trouble. They can't issue you a ticket. If they are stopping you for that, they are just looking for some dough. Tell them you want to go to the station and pay the ticket, they'll let you go.

I cannot believe some of the rpelies. Mexico does not have to honour any reciprocity agreements! They do not subscribe to any of them!! But I have never heard of anyone being hassled over no front plate. I removed my front plate and have Canada flag plate. No Mexican cop has ever bothered me.
