You should be very happy that the DW will do it. Mine just sets in the passenger set and say that is not her job. You are the one that likes camping and traveling. Wish mine would even try getting behind the wheel of the truck and drive is a couple of block and she will not even try that alone.

You guys make me sick. But good for you.

I am still trying to get my wife to empty the tanks. She even has trouble keeping her foot on the sewer connection. Needs to put on her rubber boots. And can't even look at the clear drain adapter, on our Sewer Solution.

I have been after her to attempt to just try driving our F350. Just around the block. But "Noooo" it's just so big. I even tried the "I thought size didn't matter?". But was told, that even after 35 years of marriage, I just don't understand her.

I am grateful that she will even guide me with a radio when I back in. She does a great job at that, now. But really did not want to do that at a CG. "I don't want to look that stupid, talking to a radio. People will think I'm crazy." Well, when she saw me struggling and almost back into a tree, she decided that like it or not, she needed to protect our investment in the trailer. And stepped up to the plate. Has done it ever since.

Maybe there is hope for her someday driving our truck and pulling our trailer. But this is going to be a long process.

I did get her to try waterskiing once, even though she cannot swim. But I had to get her drunk to try it. Probably not the best strategy for driving our truck. She is very "girlie".

Good for your wife! I took the trailer to "town" today for repairs because DH had to work. It's a 36-foot fifth wheel. DS sat in the co-pilot's seat and helped with lane changes. On the way home, we pulled into Walmart and got some pickling spices before heading home. For the second time, I backed it into the driveway and got it level. Now if I could only learn to back it into a campsite!

I really do think it's important to be confident enough in your abilities to get the camper home if something unexpected happens to the "usual" driver. You never know when you might be days from home and have an incapacitated driver due to some kind of injury or illness!

If a woman can't take care of all the chores and drive frontwards and backwards, just how can she expect to go camping without her DH?

When I take off on my own, DH struggles a bit knowing he'll be without his truck for a bit, but it gives him an excuse to commute in his classic car.

Now ... if I can just get it so he knows where everything is in the KITCHEN ...

More than 20 years ago, DH said that if I "couldn't drive it, we're NOT getting it." Needless to say, I do most of the towing in our family.....and I like my driving a WHOLE lot better!!

Sue great point. Guess I really don't want her to learn to tow our trailer after all. Then we'll always go together. At least until she finds some other guy to take her camping. But if that happens, I sure will miss my truck.

We went camping several years ago and the DH ended up in the emergency room and was "out of it" the entire trip and for a week or two after we got back home. I HAD to tow it back, good thing I usually drove and could break camp, hook up and tow the thing. If not, we would have been there for several weeks. If you are going to use it, you need to know how to setup, break it down, then drive it. One of you may be better at going forward, going backward, etc., but you should at least know how to do it.
