Good for her!

My wife will drive 100 mile+ legs on the interstates, but she gets nervous on two-lane roads and surface streets.

It sure is good to have someone to share the wheel time with on those longer trips ...

OK, OK... you all have convinced me it's time to let go of the reigns. My wife can setup and break down and even hook and unhook the 5er, but so far I haven't been able to let her take total control. I have complete confidence she can do it and so does she, but I am a horrible passenger. I...must...have...control.

I'll have to start with baby steps (for my sake only). Next trip out, she's driving on the interstate. Then if she wants we can work our way onto the two lanes and city streets.

I don't feel like dying so I'll stay behind the wheel...she has seizures. Before she was diagnosed she took our old TT to the lake and took off half the awning with a tree. But in a pinch I know she can do it but I would have to be halfway dead before I ever swapped seats with her.

Wife does it all and has for years. I never "let' her drive..she just did she figured it was as much her resposibility as mine..It is called teamwork.

I want to learn to pull the 5er, so far DH doesn't seem to enthusied. My brother recently bought a bp toyhauler and suggested that he would help me learn by taking me to an empty lot and practicing there. Now that's brotherly love.

OK guys, what is this "I might LET the DW drive next time out". I have driven since I started in a fiver in 99. My ex-husband's driving scared the daylight out of me. He had many tickets, I had none! Started out with a 1 ton and a 34' fifth wheel. Now we have a Freightliner and a 38' fiver. My husband goes to sleep almost everytime I drive. Only problem, it seems I am driving through big cities, construction and rain! He gets behind the wheel, no cities, no construction and never rains. Oh well, guess it is the luck of the draw. I think every adult needs to know how to drive their rig. What if the worse happens? Can you, man or woman, get your rig to safety? That is the most important part.

This is such a great subject I just have to chime in again.
I think most wives’s do there part on setup/takedown just like mine does. She just needs to learn to drive the rig. Her part now is still a huge help in our travels, she.....
Set's up all the interior items and gets the inside ready to live in, does the slide outs-coming and going, takes care of solar-inverter-generator needs as needed, drives the truck away when unhitching and pulls it back under pin when hooking up, helps put out all chairs, awnings, popup tents, rugs, BBQ's, tables and exterior lighting and general camp site Bling. And after all that she still does all the inside cooking and cleaning. And on top of that she still puts up with me after 35 years.
I won't pull the 5ver out of storage without her. She can learn how to drive in her own time; she does her part and then some.

My wife drives fine but staying awake is her problem. She was driving thru Neb. at 70mph with the 5er one day and I fell asleep. I woke up just on time to see a bridge railing coming straight at the center of the truck and I looked at her and she was asleep too. We were on the right shoulder and I could see a car (in her mirror) on our left and I reached over and shoved the wheel to the left and got us back in the right lane and didn't hit the car either. That was within 2 seconds from being curtains for us and it scared her so bad she cried for an hour and I was speechless and shaking for that long, myself! But that wasn't the first time I've had to steer from the right side - I been thru that learning to drive stuff with 5 kids!! Craig
