May be wrong place for question, but the hitch ball that came with reese wieght distribution has 6,000 lbs. stamped on the top. Does this mean that is the max lbs. camper i should tow

You are correct for that ball. There are stronger hitch balls available. I know there are 9000 and 12000 lb balls. There may be others.

I would definitely replace the ball if it is rated at 6,000#.

I did not when I upgraded to current TT and this is what I just found after the last big trip (look at base of ball stem, right about the center) .



I just replaced it with a 12,000# rated ball.

Update, went to dealer to see why ball was 6,000 lb. Was told the helper must have only looked at ball size ( 2 5/16 ) and not also at rating. He put a 12,000 lb ball on. I pulled this thing to DW and back. Leave nothing to chance or a dealer service center set your unit up and think they did it correct.

Just goes to show you can never be too observant. Maybe others who are not sure what they had installed will double check theirs.
