There are always some idiots around. The trick is avoiding them. I am surprised that State Parks have kept thier dump stations open down here. Not just because of cutbacks. I saw one that was so bad, I backed up rather attempting to even just drive on thru.
I just cannot fathom what those people were thinking. If indeed they were capable of thinking at all.
Even my dog is ashamed when she has an accident. I have no idea how these people even climbed back in thier rig. UGH.
No, I am not looking for free. The cost of the dump usage is in the fee along with boat ramp, electricity, and water. These also get misused, but clean-up is a lot less smelly and a lot more sanitary.

I think that these people that put on rallys, etc. with lots of boondocking RVers should collect a deposit of maybe $50, with $40 refunded if you get pumped out the last 2 days and then donate the money taken in to the state/s with the closest RV dumps on the routes out.
I can't imagine a bigger challenge to a dump station than would be given in this situation.
and did the OP want a free dump?

I don't think it was so much that his issue was that of it being a free service as much as it was tha attitude of the store representative in informing him. If they advertise it as a free service and it no longer exists in that location then it should be no big deal to inform potential users by posting a sign and/or simply saying politely they no longer offer the service at their location via phone or in person.

FWIW I cannot imagine a clog so bad it cannot be cleared and that a CW store would not have the money or even have a person on the payroll to handle such an issue. We aren't talking about a mom and pop operation or a lightly manned state funded dumpsite where there is basically just a person on hand to watch the area and do no service work.

This has to be one of the craziest things I have read. $50 is an insane fee as most privately owned CG's near me will let you dump for $10-$15. One, many CG's have a dumpstation and the use of it is covered by your camping fees for the time you stay. Two, there is no "free" dumpstation. If it is a state run station it is paid for by taxes, if it is privately owned they are getting revenue from somewhere. It isn't like someone put in a sewer out of the good of their own heart to be used for nothing. In CW and Cabela's case they are used for marketing and convenience to draw in customers. If they felt it needed to be a charged service I am sure it would be.

Personally I cured the problem forever. I simply dump at home. No more lines, no more hassles. Safe, clean, and all mine!

Try thinking in terms of 5 gallons of oil... I came upon this one at a Flying J storm drain... I guess the dump station was too much trouble.

Yet another consideration is that you must have a permit to have a dump station and some places.. Well.. The dump was installed sans permit.. The city finds out about it and .. They shut it down.

The nearby RV park where I store our MH, someone took a perfectly sized rock wrapped it in canvas and forced it down the hole approximately 8 feet. Estimated cost of repair, in excess of 5 grand. The RV park is thinking about it, probably will not do the repair. It isn't just slobs, it can also be vandals.

FWIW: I understand perhaps being "ticked" after going out of the way to a dump site expecting it to be "open." But, I don't understand complaining about a "freebie" being full or closed----sewage disposal costs have sky-rocketed along with everything else....a single 1000 gallon pump-out can be $300-$400 some places today....

....and perhaps the complaint deserved the response, too?????? (We didn't hear both sides of the story!!!!)
