Our Truck (06 Ford Expedition) has the 5.4L V8. And we've been towing our Rockwood Roo 23 ft hybrid with it (GVWR 5000). The expedition handles this task easily, I haven't had any issues even through the mountain passes. Apparently the truck can tow up to 8000 lbs. And we are planning on upgrading our trailer (growing family) Has anyone actually towed 8000 with an expedition or similar F150. Realistically, how does it tow?
Cheers.

Our truck is rated to tow 10,100. We are towing about 7000 lbs with it and I wouldn't go any higher. We did tow our 5000-lb HTT with it previously, and as you have found, no sweat! We notice the difference with the new trailer (GVWR 7600), though the truck still does fine. With your tow rating at 8000 lbs max, I'd advise you to stick to something with a GVWR of 6500 or less, in order to be happy.

I have the little brother to the expedition. My Explorer is rated at 7,000 and I tow a 21 foot TT with a 'Dry Weight' of 3850 and a GVWR of 6800. With us loaded to camp the TT is around 4,500 and I would be ok with another 500 lbs or so. Much more than that and I feel I'd be over stressing the TV. I'm around ~3,000 lbs. under my GCWR of 11,500, and that's comfortable for me.

Keep in mind that towing an RV is probably one of the hardest type of trailers to tow. I'd be ok towing a 8,000 lb utility trailer with a tractor on it with the expedition, but I don't think I'd want to tow a TT with all the wind resistance and be at my tow rating limit.

We towed a 6,000lb. trailer with our 2003 Expedition all over the west coast with no problems. Had we stuck with that combination, I would have replaced the tires with LT's to stiffen it up, a bit. Like kknowlton says above, I would recommend going much heavier than this.

good luck!

I tow about 8000 pounds with our 2007 Ford Expedition EL, 5.4L 6spd auto and that is all I want. If it weren't for the the 6 speed automatic transmission and the sway control we would not pull our camper with the Expy. Right now we stay pretty close to home but we want to start going on longer trips and we will need a bigger vehicle. We are looking toward a 250-2500 truck in the future. Our old camper was about 1500 lbs lighter (6500 loaded) and 4ft shorter (28ft) and the Expedition did great with it! We had a 2003 Expedition 5.4L 4spd auto before and it pulled the smaller camper ok but not nearly as well as our new Expy. After a lot of reading and experiencing things for myself it seems best to stay a good bit below the max your vehicle will tow. Just my opinion.

We have a 29BHS Cougar XLite. Empty 6250lbs and it towes it pretty well. Our last trip was fully loaded. Our 06 Expy with trailer was pretty close the the GCVW of 15,000lbs. We had two very big 7% up from Phoenix to the mountains on top of the Rim.

She pulled most of the hills in 2nd with about 4 miles in 1st.

We decided with our trailer we needed something bigger so two weeks ago we bought an F250 6.0L PSD. The hills we were towing at 35mph in the Expy we did at 60mph in the F250.

Though you will tow fine, take it slow on the hills (no choice sometimes) and just be aware that you are really at the high end of its capacity.

"We have a 29BHS Cougar XLite."

How do you like the Cougar XLite, so far? It is similar to one that we have been looking at.

Thanks for the input and advice everyone.
Doug.
