I was going to buy some 6-iinch PVC pipe to put on my rear bumper to store our under-awning carpet during travel or non-use. WOW! I added up the parts and it was over $60. and that didn’t include any hardware. The Wife said to forget it. I hate the sand that always gets all over the back of my truck from the carpet, and I also have to fold the carpet because it is longer/wider than my truck bed length. An 8-foot tube would be perfect, but the cost is crazy. What else have you done? I thought about making a 1/2” plywood box with a lid and giving it several coats of industrial enamel. It would probably outlast the trailer, and would certainly be cheaper. PVC is nice, but even the standard schedule 40 white is heavy, and the fittings/removable caps are expensive. Are there any other options?

Buy one of those large plastic tubs and fold the rug up so it will fit in it. We have a 20x8 foot rug and we are able to fold it up to neatly fit inside the tub, it then goes into the back of the Burb.

FWIW: At $30-$35 per A-C(ext. glue) 1/2" X 4' X 8' sheet, and by the time you add in hinge(s), gasket (keep carpet dry/clean), latches, fasteners, glue, and quality paint, you're gonna be in the same price range.....likely a bit more....and a WHOLE lot more work....

we have a "normal" size garbage can like you would have in your kitchen in the HTT -- the 9'x12' rug gets folded and stuffed in there -- it sticks out the top about a foot but it works

We roll up our carpet and put it in an old ski bag. Then we fold it in half and put it under our table.

Good ideas... I'd like to store ours 'outside' the trailer too. For now, I fold it up & stuff it in a crate that goes in the back of the pickup. But it is a mess, and it has to be transported back & forth from the garage each trip.
So far I like the 6" pipe idea best, but not the $60+ to build it. Maybe a less expensive pipe? ABS??

salvage pipe? less cost to acquire the pipe, but, fitting remain high priced.
just be sure you get a vent stack and not a drain pipe

My wife and her sister sewed up a bag. They used a nylon type fabric and put a drawstring on it. The rug folds up and the whole thing slips under the table.

I also had the problem with a heavy, unweildy, dirty mat. In my opinion the best alternative alternative is to get one of those lighweight polypropylene fabric mats at camping world or e-bay. Just search for "camping patio mat".
The sand falls through the weave and they are very lightweight. After folding up, I just tap it on the ground and the sand falls right out.

We made a bag for our carpet. We keep it behind our cushions on our u-shaped dinnete / bed. Easy to get to, hidden & out of the way...
