From what I understand there are rubber spacers in between the springs that act as shocks? From what they are saying this is the norm on these types of units. The problem is when the unit gets bouncing it ends up bottoming out as the spacer thing is already too compressed. So, the way I'm understanding it is that they don't have the a-typical type shocks on them. If anyone can explain this better or knows something different, please jump right in. It seems like I remember GM saying the same thing about the Endura when we had it.

"Gulfstream thinks we're running too light and said to load more."
"If you hit a bump and then hit another one right away it bottoms out."
It seems to me that if you are bottoming out then you need to lighten your load to avoid this condition, not add to it as Gulfstream recommended. I think that they may have misunderstood the nature of the rough ride.
As a general rule adding weight does help the ride until you start bottoming out. Once you start beating steel against steel the ride gets bad in a hurry. I would mark the bumpers somehow so that you could determine for sure if they are bottoming out and if they are you need to lighten the load or add springs, shocks, whatever to prevent this from happening in normal conditions. If your ride is OK without the trailer you might need to tighten the load distributing hitch some more to raise the back of the RV.
