We got a new Sharp HD TV. We get 24 digital broadcast channels, most programming in HD. We use the camper's Wineguard antenna with a power booster.
My old Directv receiver was then obsolete so I threw it away.
A new digital/HD receiver would cost me more plus more money per month.
From here I recieve Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton OH. So I'm satisfied with my current broadcast reception. Most probramming is in HD including 5 PBS channels.

How is reception other places?

I'm specifically interested in Ft. Myers FL. I'm hooked on HD. Do the stations there broadcast in HD yet?

By definition any station broadcasting digitally can also broadcast HD material. Not all shows are in HD yet, many will continue in SD for a while, and some may never be. The good news is that there are more and more programs every day that are produced in HD....

In the Phoenix area (West Valley) there are 12 separate channels that our tv identified. We can watch 11 with our wall mounted outside antenna. Probably will be able to get that 12th channel when I get our digital antenna onto the roof.

Those twelve channels send up to 5 signals. The PBS channel sends out 4.

This is a timely post....I decided to get the Digital Inverter box for the motorhome just to be able to still use the antenna. While in my driveway, I would normally get only 5-6 channels...after installing the box, I get close to 40 channels and their all crystal clear. IM inpressed.

One thing that I have noticed with Hd broadcasts from K.C. to Miami is that whether the weather is good, or bad, the picture can be perfect, then suddenly it goes to the checkerboard effect that you get on Satelite when the weather gets bad. Is this the Hd that all customers can expect? Is this temporary until next year or is this all there is? If this is it, lets go back to annalog, oh, I forgot, we didn't have a choice, did we. Good luck to all, especially to all who didn't ask for this. Dave

First, digital reception requires significantly LESS signal strength than analog reception to produce a clear picture. So what they FORCED on us was better overall television reception. Darn! So if you are occasionally losing a channel to the digital "checkerboard", you should thank the federal government that you even have a channel to lose; analog tuners would not have even found that channel in the first place!

Second, there is a handy webpage on the winegard website which allows you to enter any address in the US and then shows which broadcast stations are in range of that address. Check it out at:

Good luck,

Tom

I also are not real happy with the digital reception. Yes the picture is nice and sharp and clear. When you can get it to stay on.

One minute you have a picture than you get on screen "No Signal"
Sometimes you loose the sound. I have switched back to analog at times just to watch something.

Most of my reception area so far has been between Chicago and Milwaukee. I think digital has room for a lot of improvement. If there was a choice I would not pay to get it.

Whats a digital antenna ?????

As far as I know, all antennas are the same, they receive certain frequencies depending on their design. There is no Digital Vs Analog on a antenna.

That's what I'm talking about. If what we are seeing now is the final product, it's the pitts!
