No problem hijackin"
I am in the motel Trees; across from Paul Bunyan (Trees of Mystery). The coast traffic is not that bad. Everyone is already home from the Labor Day weekend.

Update on what road I took on the Harley: 36
It was curvy and all in all a pretty smooth road. There were some tight corners and some blind corners, but what do you expect for 140 miles of curvy road.
I had breakfast in this very little hole (seats 10 or 12) in the wall cafe in Platina, Ca. (west of Red Bluff about 45 miles) that was the best I've had in years (home-fried potatoes and sausage omelet).
So far 1040 miles and about $75.00 of premium gas.

I (2-10-05) bought a 2002 F350 CC SWD PSD and a new 2003 Citation 10'8. Rancho 9000X & Toyo M55's.I have been a tent camper all my life. I wanted more comfort while doing my Willamette Backcountry Ski Patrol & Crater Lake Ski Patrol duties.11

I was only on it one time about 1960
you have to try it (I was transporting oversize mobile homes )
in from the coast about 50 miles, with a 10 ft wide & 55 ft long mobile home & my truck was a 20 ft long truck.
I had a pilot car in front of me & a pilot car behind me And most of the time a man walking beside the tires on the trailer making sure at least 2 wheels was on the road and not in thin air( it had 4 axles)
I do not remember how many hours it took but I was not breaking any speed limits.
anyway with out the trailer on the way back it was really a nice drive
Have a great trip

From the 101 on the west end of CA 299 the road climbs pretty quickly once you leave the coast to 2300 ft and then descends to a few hundred feet and back up to 2800 ft. These are like 5 mile climbs. After some miles the hills are smaller and the road is pretty crooked. About half way thru you follow the Trinity River and it is very scenic and not all that hilly. You can travel about 50 or so here. I don't think I ever got into high gear in a 38 ft Dutchstar diesel but a couple of times the whole 100 plus miles. On this road I used the jake brake more times than I ever have in all 48 states I have been in. There are many places where I climbed in 3rd and 4th gears but 300 hp is not enough for this size motorhome in my opinion.
Near the east end you climb to 3200 ft and then there is an 8 mile descent with 25 mph about the maximinm safe speed.

It is a very scenic ride especially when the leaves are turning.
