I'll ask again.

Can we post here campgrounds and locations for those evacuating the hurricane?

Just seems to be a friendly thing to do.

Cheryl,

I don't think it's a bad idea to help everyone in need of a place to stay.

I also believe Les said...

If your going to do that, I would suggest you post in the General Forum rather than TT specific...

I thought this posted but when I came back tonight to see how it was going I didn't find what I typed earlier today. Anyway if this helps:

Askew's Ferry Landing Campground, Edwards, MS along I-20, 14 miles east of Vicksburg, country setting, easy access, when full they have an open field they let people park in. Ducks, geese, lake, pond, swimming pool... 601-852-2331

Magnolia RV Park, Miller Street, Vicksburg, off Hwy 61 south, south of I-20 about a mile from the Mississippi River Bridge. 601-631-0388 easy access, pull through, good accomodations FLAT. Near Walmart

Rivertown Campground, 5900 Hwy 61 South, Vicksburg, MS up a gravel hill along the highway then flat, all gravel, no trees to fall ! about 3 miles from Walmart. 601-630-9995

East of Jackson off I-20 is Jelly Stone Park at Pelahatchie, expensive!

Then Roosevelt State Park is at Morton, further east from Jackson about half way between Jackson and Meridian.

The casinos have campground in town but I don't know if the open them to emergencies...free if you gamble!

If you want to go south of Vicksburg there is Grand Gulf State Park. NICE little park but really out of the way. But nice. I'll post the number tomorrow. EDIT: A little north of Port Gibson, MS (22 miles south of I-20) 120006 Grand Gulf Road, Port Gibson, MS 601-437-5911.

Edited 2nd time to add: Natchez State Park off Hwy 61 just about 10 miles north of Natchez, MS. NICE park, old area and new area. Natchez is about 125 miles or so north of Baton Rouge, La. New area is back in sites, I think old area is a combination.

No I'm not promoting any of these. We keep our travel trailer at Askew's and have stayed at Grand Gulf State Park. Just know what the others look like.

All are very sufficient in the event of an evacuation.

I-20 is about 160 miles from the gulf coast.

When Katrina hit we had 72 mile an hour winds in Vicksburg.

Just for info and consideration.

I just thought of something.

At Askew's Landing Campground they have Bridgeport Horse Hotel.. Might mean something to those evaucating with larger animals.
I can't find a phone number for Bridgeport Horse Hotel but they are there and have signs.

It's our understanding that there has been a mandatory evacuation of all campgrounds at the Natchez, MS level and south.

We were at Askew's this weekend and as the evening drew near the athletic field filled up and then the BIG rigs moved on out Saturday morning and Sunday morning.

Askew's is trying to accomodate every one.

I don't know about the others but will ride around to the other campgrounds in Vicksburg and see if they are full if someone needs me to.

It is still calm here and don't expect to have rain and winds until in the morning.
