DebDav wrote: Check your home owners association rules and regulations. The specific reason must be written in order to be enforced.
If the rules are clear. you have little recourse.
Try to take pictures with dates of all other offenders. This will serve to get them also in compliance.
Why would you suggest the OP help with enforcement? Better to talk to the folks with similer situations, and gain their help fighting the problem.

At the risk of being a pain to your neighbors, go around and take pictures of all other similarly parked vehicles and then consider fighting it. Selective enforcement is not right.

My advice is in 3 parts
1: Find the actual ordnance or rule they claim you are in violation of. IT may be a new ord and you may have "Grandfather" rights
2: Seek professional assistance
3: Seek off site storage
(NOTE: I could store it for you however the commute to detroit mi and the on site security would be issues so I'm not really offering)
There is a storage lot 20/month not far from where I'm typing though (Genesee Michigan in the case of the lot, I'm in Davision just now)
However step one is to read the law they claim you are in violation of
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

I picked up a copy of the "ordinance". It doesn't say when it was enacted. I'm positive it is old. It's pretty clear that I'm in violation of the ordinance. The refer to it as a "recreational vehicle". The state of PA calls it a "motor home". Says so right on my license plate. There are numerous violators in the borough however I am the only one who got the letter. They do have a 72 hour parking provision. Due to the fact that it is probably cheaper to find off site parking than fight it, I will pursue that route for the rest of this season and look at all my options this winter.
I'm willing to bet we have an ordinance covering pink flamingos. If I can find them cheap, I will be finding out!

Ya'll better wake up, it is not the fact that these people just moved there or that they have a home owners association--but it is the fact that more and more towns and cities are passing these laws and most people dont know they are doing it till it is too late---most of us dont hang out at city hall to see what is happening next--all it takes is some grumpy person with nothing better to do and he figures out that he dont like the looks of your $180,000.00 MH and decides to bug city hall---hence the squeaky wheel gets oiled--and it is not just parking on the street either, some wont allow it to be parked in your driveway or in the case of Bedford Tx even be seen in your own back yard--this has nothing to do with safety, just with what some feel is an eye sore--I dont agree with parking them on the street but if it is in "my" drive way or yard then piss off---If it is a safety problem or if it is not tagged and inspected then leave it up to the police or code enforcement thats what we pay them for ---your diesel pickup is big, smells bad and is noisy so lets ban them from being parked on the street, next will be lawn ornaments someone some where will decide they are ugly and want them banned too--sounds silly dont it, but is it that far off when we pass laws cause someone dont like the looks of your TT in your driveway--beauty is in the eye of the beholder--If you moved into a development with a homeowners asso. and rules then you knew that and agreed to there laws----I am a veteran that joined the army to protect my rights and freedoms---didnt know that I would lose them from my own government just because someone doesnt like the looks of my boat even though it does not imbinge upon their rights and freedoms----where does it stop---now if you agree that it is good for a government to be able to tell you what you can and cant do on your property(as long as it dont infringe upon others freedoms)then you best go back and read up on the history of this country espcially the the part about the revoluntionary war--- if you still agree it is a good thing then get on a plane and visit some of those countries that have had governments that have told their peoples what they can and cant do and see how they fair--China, Russia, Vietnam, Iraq are just a few---you folks that still think it is a good idea sooner or later they will pass a law bout something you like so dont be surprised when it happens

I copied the below from the PennDOT web site. There is no definition of "recreational vehicle" in the Penn motor vehicle code (Title 75).
I would do 4 things:
1. Find out if the Borough ordinance/building code/zoning code defines "recreational vehicle"
2. Talk to a lawyer about this - not necessarily hire him to go to court.
3. move the motor home.
4. request a hearing before the magistrate and point out that the term "recreational vehicle" is not defined and a quad, dirt bike, etc are all "recreational" in nature and are vehicles. Ask him to dismiss the charges as you own a "motor home."
JMHO
Title 75
CHAPTER 1
GENERAL PROVISIONS
Sec.102. Definitions.
"Recreational trailer." A trailer designed or adapted and used exclusively for recreational
purposes.
"Mobile home." A trailer designed and used exclusively for living quarters or commercial
purposes which exceeds the maximum size limitations prescribed by this title for operation on a
highway and is only incidentally operated on a highway.
"Motor home." A motor vehicle designed or adapted for use as a mobile dwelling or office,
except a motor vehicle equipped with a truck-camper.
"Truck-camper." A structure designed, used or maintained primarily to be loaded or affixed to a
motor vehicle to provide a mobile dwelling, sleeping place, office or commercial space.
"House coach." A vehicle with an enclosed area which is designed, constructed or equipped for
use, either permanently or temporarily, as a dwelling place, living abode, sleeping place or camping
accommodation. A house coach includes motor homes, slide-in cabins and sleeping units specifically
designed for mounting on a pickup truck and sleeping cabins designed for use on trucks and truck
tractors operated for heavy-duty, long-distance hauling.
"House trailer."
(1) A trailer which is designed, constructed and equipped as a dwelling place,
living abode or sleeping place (either permanently or temporarily) and is equipped for use as a
conveyance on streets and highways.
(2) A trailer containing a chassis and exterior shell designed and constructed for
use as a house trailer, as defined in paragraph (1), but which is used permanently or temporarily
for advertising, sales, display or promotion of merchandise or services, or for any other
commercial purpose except the transportation of property.

Right on Steel Pony. Well said.
As I call around today, I'm finding out there is quite a shortage of storage spots, at any price.
So, I am taxed extra for owning 10,000 sf instead of a smaller lot however, I can't use it as I want. Maybe I can get my assessment lowered at my next hearing.......right....like that will happen!
It's supposed to be off my property today. If I can't find anywhere to put it, I'll have to park it at the borough building til I find somewhere to put it.

Either set up a Steeler Nation display in your yard, or start a gnome farm. I mean populate your front yard with every style, type and display of gnomes you can get your hands on. Put em right up to the curb, and offer him a couple as good luck charms in selling his house!

Fuzz....I know how you feel. There is no ordinance against one in my village however my "neighbors" behind me complained to the town board about the "obtrusive site" they have if they look over into my yard. They said it ruins the look of their yard (2007 Damon Astoria)even tho I did plantings along the fence line, which BTW, have grown about a foot this year. It is not by their back yard, but a side yard they do not use. And they have a beautiful wisteria vine on the fence line, that if they put a trellace up, it would have covered that area 12 feet high easy.
They say they pay good money in taxes....well, guess what.. MY taxes are 2-3 times higher than theirs.
After them going to town 2x to compalin, and us taking certain measures to make it more "palpable" for them, like parking it at least 30 feet away half of the time, starting it up when they are not home so the noise doesn't dusturb them, they say now they are going to start a petition.
Anyway, many had answered me in the past, giving me support and I appreciated it alot. I recognize some of the posters responding to you...but I could go on about this forever, it gripes me so much!!
Sorry for bringing my saga up again, FuzzButt, but wanted to let you know I understand 100% how frustrating it is!!
