Just introducing myself - I've been lurking here for some time, looking into the pros and cons of purchasing a new trailer and I must thank everyone that posts for the wealth of information available here! I have learned quite a bit (and much more to go). Much like many here, we were tent campers that went the PUP route (didn't stay there long), and just received our Roo 23ss last week from RVW. Wife and two daughters (13 and 9) are making our maiden voyage this weekend.

The transaction with RVW went great (throw a bone out to our salesman Preston). Only issue discovered so far has been with the grill - the arms extending from the bracket are not level and RVW is working with us on a resolution. We've been spending time familiarizing ourselves with the trailer, and so far so good. The "unknown fear of the black tank" has me over analyzing quite a bit, but I think all will be fine! The family is pretty excited to not have to make the walk in the middle of the night to the restrooms so the winner of a game of left-right-center will earn the privilege of christening the black tank! Hope to get my vent covers on and some other small mods done before we go, but time is getting short.

Thanks to those that assisted me via PMs and emails, especially Chuck_S. Hopefully I'll have something to contribute one day, as opposed to just lurking around!

Welcome.
Don't be too worried about the black tank. It's just a holding tank, the level indicators will never work as they should and some simple steps will make the whole process easy.
I would get a tornado balck tank flush kit on tyou short list of mods. That coupled with the simple tank chemicals from Wally World and you'll do fine.

Regarding the Black Tank I would go straight to the GEO method instead of chemicals. Just use 2 cups calgon (water softner) and 1 cup liquid laundry soap to 1 gal. of water. This is so much better than the chemicals and it really makes dumping a lot easier. We have used this method for 4 years and would never go back to the "blue" stuff. I only wish I had known about it sooner. For more info just do a search for the "GEO Method" Enjoy your new camper....

Congrats! There's nothing like that first middle of the night "pit stop" when its raining outside and all you have to do is walk a few feet, safe warm, and dry. That's when you know its all worth it! ;-) Enjoy!

The pinnacle for me was getting to use my own bathroom while in the parking lot for L.L. Bean in Freeport, Maine a few weeks back. I don't have a "I heart my RV toilet" t shirt, but I'm thinking about getting one made...

Camper sewage is a hobby in it's own right!

We're at Barkcamp SP (OH) this weekend (electric only) and I'll not bother with dumping my black tank. A shot of Odorlos(tm) will keep it non-smelly and working. We'll be at East Harbor SP (OH) two weeks later on a full service site where I can "hobby" the entire weekend if necessary. Another full service site in mid-October is the last scheduled trip before she goes in the barn for the winter. Season is too short!

Thanks everyone.

OK, I've read the GEO method over and over, what I'm not sure of is the quantity if liquid or powder. Powder seems to be 2 cups to the tank.... if liquid, use 1 cup?

I use the GEO method...I don't treat it as quite so much of a science. Generally, I add a cap full of Calgon liquid, maybe a little more, with some water after every dump. Every so often, I dump in about a cup (unmeasured) of bleach and some detergent. That's about it. I think the most important thing is to make sure your tank is filled, or close to it, before actually dumping the tanks.
