I have specs for a 2008 TravelStar 21SS, and it lists GVWR as 5000. I was just looking at the specs for 2007, and it lists the GVWR as 7,100. Has there been that much of change in the weights?
If you have a 2005 Starcraft 21SS, what's your GVWR & your actual weight?
Any thoughts on additional features added since the '05's? I'm considering an '05, but also haven't ruled out the 2009 models of TravelStar or Roo.
Thanks

Not sure what was added, but the GVWR of the later Travelstars I believe was due to Starcraft using heavier-duty axles. Our 2005 21SSO had a GVWR of 5000#.

Our '07 215SSO has a GVWR of 7,100 lbs because of the axles. I thought I read somewhere here that they have since de-rated these same axles to 5,000 lbs. Either way, the weight of the trailers has not changed dramatically. We still have a dry weight of 4,147 lbs (based upon the label in the trailer).

GVWR is the maxmimum permissible weight of the trailer, not what it weighs.
GVWR is largely determined by the axles, springs, and tires that determine the Gross Axle Weight Rating, the rest is tongue weight. An easy way to boost GVWR is larger axles, springs, and tires. But other than any incidental weight increase from the heavier duty parts the trailer weight remains the same, only the permissible weight increases.
Even with larger axles the tire capacity is a major limiting factor. 13" tires only carry so much weght, 14" tires can be more capable.
