This concerns those that have purchased or are purchasing a Jayco product from the following Jayco dealers: Southland Trailer in Taylor, MI and Haus of Trailers in White Lake, MI and Waterford, MI...

About 1 year ago General RV purchased Southland Trailer and they recently completed the purchase of Haus of Trailers.

Two weeks from tomorrow (08/29/2008) General RV plans on closing Southland Trailer and transferring all operations and product to General RV's Brownstown, MI location. As for Haus of Trailers the Waterford, MI location is closing but the White Lake, MI location will remain open. All of the employees of both dealers will find out first thing tomorrow morning whether they have a job or not. Very sad to see Southland Trailer, especially Larry and Andre in the service department, waiting to find out if they have a job or not (good luck guys!) and all the other employees who may or may not be losing their job or not.

Saddest thing here is now all their customers have to go to General RV to get service, including ourselves...I have never liked General RV but that is another story...

If this affects you good luck in whatever may happen...

Darn shame, more small businesses gone. We went twice to General RV for repairs as I had bought my MH there, both times they screwed it up. I drive all the way to Camping World in Belleville, about an hour for us, to get work done because I won't have General RV do my work. They couldn't even replace a shore power plug head properly...didn't bother to put the wires UNDER the screws, just laid them on top. Took us a while to figure out why we were having power problems...the wires were shorting...

I'm sick of following my dreams - I'm just going to ask them where they're going and hook up with them later.

I have gotten my last 2 motorhomes from General RV and I will definitely look there again if I decide I need something newer. The service has been great, the deals were very good and all promises were kept. It is nice to pick up a new MH with a full tank of fuel. My 2 purchases have been at Novi and Wayland. Since I live near Wayland that will be where I look next time.

There's a huge difference between Browntown and the other location. We have been there several times in the past and sales people were not interested in anyone who was not look at the top end RVs. There service department has some of the poorest excuses for techs in all of Michigan. Check the repair review, they have a poor rating for the Browntown location.
They need to keep the people from the locations they have taken over and get rid of the dead weight and redue there whole service department at Browntown.

On the topic of Jayco products: Last week I toured the 5th wheel part of their manufacturing plant in Middlebury Indiana. Their production for this one product (5th wheel) was cut to 12 units/day, 4 days/week. In other words, 48 units supplied the needs of the entire USA for a week. We toured at noon and most workers had already gone home for the day. Not good but probably representative of the RV industry at this point.

I thought there was only 1 location?

Sorry to hear that, even if I'm not directly affected. I hate to see the little guys - especially the ones with a relationship with the community and an emphasis on service - get bought out by the big conglomerates. Seems the latter end up caring only about the bottom line. Hope it doesn't work out that way in this case.

General RV through my own personal experience plus word of mouth from others has always been known for their very poor service at the Brownstown location...their Novi and grand Rapids locations are supposedly better in terms of service from what I here...

Sad now that I can't take our new fifth wheel back to Southland Trailer for warranty/service work should I need it...service manager at Southland has been there for 37 years...I know for sure I won't be taking it to General Rv for service...Camping World in Belleville, MI is a possibility...

I got my Damon from General RV in Wixom and have been happy with the service there. Not all General RV's are the same service wise. Or services wise

Mt. Clemons for example does not sell Propane (Wixom does)

I hate to hear these things as well. Not a good sign for the industry. Our dealer is VERY small. I sure hope that he is able to weather this. Not sure where I would have to go for service.
