The address bar on the taskbar will open the default browser, doesn't matter whether it's IE or Firefox.

When you installed SP3 browseui.dll was overwritten and the new file doesn't support the address bar. If you have access to a pre-SP3 installation of XP you can copy that file to the Windows\System32 folder to overwrite the SP3 file.

If no access to a pre-SP3 then you can try here for a copy of the file: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?browseui

Here's a video how-to: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/itdojo/?p=163

Hope this helps. Please post back.

Thanks for this info. I believe it would work however I have no confidence that I can make it do so without sending my machine into a prolonged coma. I believe I will just stick to the address bar on my yahoo page. Thanks again.

FWIW, I installed SP3 yesterday and did indeed lose my Address Bar. The work around of replacing browseui.dll did the trick and I have my Address Bar back, albeit on the left side of the taskbar rather than the right.
