Tell me about this Scangauge, please. I've read about all the features and it sounds spiffy, but, really is it all that handy? Are there other competing brands that perform about the same and do the same jobs? Has anyone actually been able to increase fuel mileage enough to justify buying one? I'm particularly interested in determining if turning overdrive off at times is beneficial. The realtime fuel mileage would seem to be good for that.

ScanGuage is more versitile, user friendly, has more functions, easier to read the display, can easily be upgraded by the company website...and can save real money when driving by giving you accurite fuel consumption, engine performance and turbo info, as well as fluid temperatures and pressures. Y=This thing can save your engines life! And I used mine on my son's 1997 Escort to diagnose the dreaded "red light on the dashboard" syndrome! It was an oxygen sensor, I saved $120.00 replacing it myself.

Wait for more responses. They are all going to be very positive.

Like adding a trip computer to you rig, as well as a full set of (accurate) gauges and an error code reader.

My Ford E350 runs fine, but after about 2 minutes, the gauges kind of "freeze" into "normal" position for temperature, fuel, etc. It's absolutely impossible that your rig climbing up big hills in the rockies and the coasting down the same incline has NO variation in coolant temperature, or MPG.

Scan gauge will be a real education, especially if you set it up for MPG to be a continuous read. You will instantly see that climbing the tiniest grade under increased power sucks fuel big time.

Doing essentially the same trip coming and going, I figure I saves about 2 mpg paying some attention to the scangauge once it was installed and running.

A good place to buy them is Amazon. I got mine there and it did not work on the International platform. They charged me no shipping when I bought it and they paid for the return freight when I had to send it back. Good luck, I really wish it had worked for my coach.

Works great, I love mine, I just opened an ad from JC Whitney in my email for a Scan Gauge II for $139 with free shipping. It says to use promo code, DEDBHY8 I think you have to sign up on the website to get the ad but it's worth a try.

I too had the Scangauge I and I bought the new model. Programmed it for transmission temp, instant MPG and average MPG, and intake temp for kicks. I was able to increase my mileage from 7.5 to 9.5 on a trip coast to coast - almost 12,000 miles. It helped me to justify "crawlin' up the hill and zoomin' down de udder side".

I have one of the first Scangauge. I had to disconnect both batteries to change the isolation relay and now the Scangauge only displays numbers no letters. Anyone have this happen? I guess I'm going to have to call the company.

Dusty

I call the company a few weeks ago, they said to send it in. Perhaps disconnecting the batteries had effected it's memory.
We have been using our mh and was going to send in Friday but before I did I decided to unplug it and then plug in again. Viola, it works, full readings.

ScanGuage is very cool. So much information at your fingertips. Mine pays for itself in fuel savings by displying both real-time MPG as well as the cumulative MPG for the tank.

I use the E-540 blendmount to have it over the rear-view mirror and that works pretty well for me.

Mine came from MTG Motorsports. Fast delivery, reasonbale price.
