I have HP Laptop running Windows XP Home edition. Yesterday I installed SP3. Ever since then I lose my wireless connection every five or ten minutes. I can reconnect but nothing I have tried (mostly just experimenting with the settings) has worked so far. Has anybody had this problem or does anybody have any ideas that might help me? I did a search and some reading on SP3 but didn't come up with anything concrete. Thanks in advance.

For now my "SP3" download has worked pretty good but I did notice another followup download the next day....

Sounds like a power setting issue. I don't know what SP3 would have to do with that - but check your wireless network, properties, configure, power management. Make sure it is not allowing the adapter to be turned off for saving power.

See this article at WiFiSavvy.com for more details.

What it sour signal strength? The one with lowest signal strength is the first one to loose connection. I have not had a single problem with sp3. If you have one, Try an external antenna

Had a similar problem, however, it started before SP3. Solved it by installing Network Magic. Seems to work fine now.

Try a search for "keep alive connection" or something like that. I think it was mostly for dial-ups, but it may give you some ideas.

Thanks for the replies. My power management was ok and my Signal strength was good. I updated my driver and that seems to have fixed the problem. I haven't lost the conection since doing that (knock on wood).

When I got this computer it worked fine in camp grounds, and at Panera Bread and the like but at home.. I could not even open mail.yahoo.com without seeing "Connection reset"

Found that when I went to device manager (Settings, control panel, system, hardware, device manager) and selected the properties for the Wi-Fi adapter there was one set to "Best Battery Life" (note they call it by many names depending on who wrote the driver) I set it to "Best Performance" and... NO more issues.

Open a command window. Enter "ipconfig /release" After that has completed enter "ipconfig /renew" This will wipe out all of the old configs for all adapters and re-establish the connections. It may solve your problem. If not, back to the drawing board.

reinstalling wireless card drivers probably fixed the problem. It's not uncommon when applying a SP that you need to update drivers.
