Need more advice. We've been told by an old salty (4 year fulltimer) we need to get an electric de-humidifier, but they are not easy to come by and are rather large for small space areas! In our home, we'd used the ones that soak up liquid (non-electric) but when it got accidentally knocked over (by the cat--who is now dead) it seriously stained and ruined everything it touched. What do you'all think?

Thanks again for all of your help!

This time of the year you can sometimes get lucky and find them on sale. We got a $399 10,000 BTU air-conditioner / heat-pump / dehumidifier for a $100 at Walmart last year. I just saw some units on the clearance tables at a local Home-Depot last week.

Got to a marine dealer or on line and buy one like they use on boats.

They have a heater element like you have in a stove, works on 120VAC, no fan, will not start a fire, are small , work great and fairly inexpensive.

I think they are around 14" X 14" and 4" tall. We had one on our 46' boat and replaced the 1/2 dozen chemical filled cups that had to be empty all the time.

don't know why you can't find a small electric one at Costco/Sams club etc. just set it up to drain into sink.

I bought an electric one to keep in the camper when it is sitting in my driveway. I have it draining into the sink and it works great, I drain about 10 gallons each week. Lowes has them from about $150.

Check on ebay. They sometimes have reconditioned models at a reasonable price. Then buy a squaretrade warranty and you are good to go.

We did too. We bought a second one for the 5th wheel. Maybe 2.5ft tall and about 20 lbs to carry. It holds two gallons and in the Florida humidity, it fills up in a 24hr day with us going in and out of the house. It has a fan and makes about as much white noise as a water fountain cooler. They make a big difference in comfort in humid areas. We set ours on "normal" and it runs when it needs to on all but cool dry winter days.

Got ours at Sears, model #580.54501. We take it with us during cold weather camping. We use to have a lot of condensation during the night, especially in the slides. This solved the problem.

In forums past, if I rremember the name correctly, Solarius was the brand everyone was saying was really good and compace for the camper. I think I saw them at Lowe's for around $150 +/- Said this was a quiet unit.
