Since you gave one option of leaving and not paying, I assume that you did not even make a deposit, because if you had made a deposit, you could have not just left without paying because you would have lost your deposit. So without a deposit, your reservation on your requested site would probably be subject to change. Tough situation for all involved. I don't think you had any option but to take the other site but I would ask for some kind of compensation because it has fewer improvements.

We decided to stay and give it a chance and it was ok, but not great. The guy who checked us in did bring a honey pot out yesterday to empty our tanks for free. We did get some money back as the sites we had were full hookup pull throughs and they put us on w/e site. They did offer two small full hookup site to us but both of our trailers tongues would hang stuck out into thr road about 2 ft. Needless to say we opted for the w/e sites. The two small full hookup sites should have been used for the pipefitters as they both had small trailers and should not have been on the only large pull through sites for bigger trailers. Overall the campground will get a poor rating. Everything is old, not taken care of really well, seasonal people are not friendly, all of the gravel roads need to be graded as potholes are everywhere, their "bathroom" facilities are nothing more than porta potties and the only shower house was located in the office, but I have to give them credit for emptying our tanks for free. We are leaving a day early and will write this campground off our list of return sites.

Just curious, did you do any pre trip investigation on this RV park and if so where did you look? Or did you just go in blind? What made you want to go there? Does it have a web site? Is there a listing in the RVpark review? Care to mention the name of the park? Did they indeed require a deposit to make a reservation? Inquiring minds would like to know

Ask most any campground owner and they'll tell you that the seasonals or fulltimers are what keeps them alive. Weekenders are there maybe 3 nights a few times a month while the others are 24/7. Granted the money for a monthly is less but it is constant and that's what a campground needs.

I understand your disappointment at not getting the site requested but you have already said you won't be back because of the condition of the campground so if they had made the pipefitters move or leave they would be out even more money.

If we want a specific site we pay for it before arriving. That does make it ours.

we had a similar experiance last summer at Cold Brook Campground in Gansvoort,NY. initally we had we visited the campground to find a good spot and we paid in full our reservation for a 4 day weekend in July. upon arrival and checking in, we discovered the site # was different than what we reserved. i brought this to the attention of the young lady at the office and she said she had to talk to the manager. i explained to the manager we had a paid in full reservation we had made 6 weeks previous, he then told me they had decided to rent that site out as a seasonal. i asked him why no one had thought to at least call us when they had rented it out to give us an option, he then told me that they were probably supposed to, but someone must have forgot. he said they would certainly take a seasonal over a transient !

he then offered to drive us around in his golf cart to look for another site, i told him i would rather have them just refund my money back to my credit card. he refused, and said i should look for another site. keep in mind, we had visited 6 weeks previous and picked this site, we have a dog and prefered this spot due to the site availability and size of our camper. he then said i was being very difficult, and unreasonable. that's when i told him that when i signed the reservation agreement and paid in full, no one said a thing about selling the site to a seasonal and if they had made that stipulation, i would have gone elsewhere. i asked him to print the agreement out and show me, but he would not. i again asked him for a full refund, he again refused. so , i asked him who he worked for and he said the office he reported to ( a Morgan RV Resort) was probably closed by then and wouldn't be open until monmday morning. we left..... and drove to Alpine Lake in Corinth and were treated with respect. the gave us a list of sites available for the dates we would need and just said to come back to the office and check in when we were set up. we have never had any difficulty at Alpine Lake.

monday morning i called the Morgan RV Resort Office and explained what had happened. the person on the phone said she was surprised i wasn't called the day they had sold the site to a seasonal and offered another site, credit for another stay at that or another Morgan RV Resort, or a full refund. she said she would immediately call the Campgrround office and have them refund the full amount. she asked me to consider visiting another Morgan RV Resort in the future and if i did, to call her first and she would arrange for a discount for our trouble at Cold Brook. she apologized for the managers attitude and behavior and assured me she would speak with him. i guess that's one reason why we prefer the family run type campground vs. the corporate property type resort.

It's really sad to see people get treated like this. Since I put it on a credit card, I was not too worried having to pay for something I did not receive. The campground was Mendota Hills in Amboy, IL. I did check RVParks reviews and the reviews were fine. I also assumed that since they had a church on site it would be a fairly safe bet. Oh well, live and learn. The weekend was not all that bad and could have been worse.

Option 2

The campground should of made them move and let you have the spot you reserved. I notice some campgrounds makeup rules daily to fit there needs. That's when they get in trouble with there customers.

That happened to us once. We reserved a FHU site and when we arrived it was not available because the person on the site stayed an extra couple of days. They gave us a site with W & E only. To make matters worse they did not have a dump station. We were given a discount. Had we not been in the area to visit friends and therefore not spending much time at the site we would have left and went to another RV Park. This is our first year traveling with an RV and it has been quite an education/experience. The varied facilities and park conditions are sometimes overwhelming. We depend on RV park reviews for information so when we get to a place we are not totally surprised and/or disappointed.

That's why we don't stay in private campgrounds, they can jerk you around anyway they see fit. If I make a reservation for a certain site in a SC state park, I will get that site. It is either available to reserve for the time period I want it for or it is not available. There is no "we put someone else on that site cuz they paid us more money or they are staying longer" nonsense.
