We are planning to head to Ashville from Bailington TN and then on to Myrtle Beach. What would be the best route from Ashville to MB. I understand there are quite a few significant grades out of Ashville towards the East.

When we did that last October, we used I-40 east from Asheville to Mocksville, stopped at the 1000 Trails Forest Lakes for a week, then used US-64 to Asheboro, US-220 south to Rockingham, then US-501 almost to Conway, and SR-22 into Myrtle Beach. We noticed no significant hills out of Asheville (it's mostly downhill as you head east). Had we not stopped at 1000 Trails, there might have been a shorter route with different hills. We're in a 32ft gas puller towing a PT Cruiser.

All beautiful country. Asheville when the leaves are turning in late October is absolutely spectacular.

I-26 east bound after the exit for Hendersonville goes down a long 7 percent grade where it crosses the Green River. Gear down and save the brakes.
The bridge is touted to be the highest interstate bridge in the US. The driver can not see the river. The copilot may?? The pull out of the valley is not quite as bad. The rest of I-26 is a series of a lot of long grades almost to Columbia, SC.

In Columbia, take I-20 to Florence, SC. At Florence, take I-95 north for a few miles to the exit to 327. It will be well marked to Myrtle Beach.
