Just curious if anyone knows what it costs to get on the ETR after the burlington skyway and go all the way to the other end with a truck and 25 food TT? wether us going on a saterday will make a difference? we plan on leaving saterday morning and returning on a sunday afternoon?
do I need to register with them to get a discount? I don't have a need to travel it much at all, and have no real need to other than it may make for an easier trip than the 401 death race hwy when going north of lake ontario.
would getting a transponder be worth it for a once a year use?

A transponder would not be of use for once per year as there is a monthly lease fee.

I was under the impression that any vehicle over 5000Kg (11,000#) HAD to have a transponder to be allowed on the 407???
Reason I'd like clarification is that I am heading to Toronto with my fiver on Sept 9th and was planning on avoiding the 407 for exactly that reason.
But the $41* toll (end to end) plus $15 video plus who knows how much account fee could make it expensive!!
(*it works out at 61ยข/mile)

Last fall we did the entire route with the trailer (19 ft, single axle)- the bill was $23.92. We only head down that way every year or so and in our view the toll is money well spent.

You probably didn't hit their 11,000# threshold for "Heavy duty" toll with a single axle.
For a fiver or bigger TT does anyone know if they consider total rig weight or just the truck?
And how do they figure it out?

You're right - it's a small rig - we weigh out at about 9,000 lbs tops - but even if the bill were much more we found that taking the 407 was so much more relaxing (and safer IMHO) that we would gladly pay a lot more ... of course its easy to say that when you only use it for one road trip a year (two tolls) ...

Thankyou for the info folks, as I am over the 5000 kg mark I sent an inquirey to the ETR office as to wether I will be billed as a light vehicle or heavy only indicating that I am around that weight, don't know if they have scales that weigh as you enter the hwy, but guess I'll find out, asked them several questions and will hopefully get the answers tommorrow with a cost.

From what I know you will be treated as a commercial truck and you must have the transponder or face serious charges. I no longer even think of using 407.

When I inquired I was told that in addition to the toll I would be fined $50.00 for being over 5,000.... once they photo the plate if there is any doubt they can get the registered gross weight I guess.
