We took a short trip up to Cold Creek this weekend. On our Sunday morning ride we came across a herd of Mustangs who checked us out and even came over looking for some treats. We were fresh out of salt licks, but next time will bring a bag of carrots along just in case!

Here are a few more shots from the trip:

Just as a little boundary for the campsite. It keeps people from riding too close to the trailer and reminds them to slow down. The cones are collapsible so it doesn't hurt them to get run over.

Cool pictures!

Just a little FYI for anyone! Make sure that you break the carrots into 2-3" sections/lengths when you feed them and don't give another piece until it has finished the first one. Horses can choke and get greedy. Reason for cutting is people panic and thrust the carrot into a horses mouth... NOT good or they take the whole thing and choke. These horses may not be used to eating something like a carrot. Apples, same deal.

Also, make sure that they don't get the plastic bags. Horses can not vomit. What goes in, must come out. Don't feed them your fingers and watch that greediness starts horse fights, and YOU will be the one to lose.

Gotta love those beasts!

Wait a minute. I smell a rat (horse)! I thought all you westerners were ruining the environment and harming the wild life? (says Sierra Club) I'm not seeing any of that going on in your pictures. What gives??!!

On a serious note, what a great ride and experience. I'm jealous! Thanks for sharing.

Good point. I should have said "baby carrots."

I gotta tell ya, watching my kids experience those animals and listening to them talk about it later and tell their grandparents about it was worth every dime ever spent for the trailer, quads, helmets, gas, etc.

We've been going up into Utah for our riding trips (4-5 hours each way), but have now discovered a place only 45 minutes from home which is 20-25 degrees cooler than Vegas and has great riding and scenery. It makes it easy to go on a regular weekend without breaking the bank for two tanks of diesel.

Here is another pic. Notice the hole through the top of the mountain...some of this area burned a few years back.
