Headed from Durango over through Mt. Valley next week and was curious about Goulding CG. Is it a good place to stay or should we move on. PS We have a 37" fiver.
Thanks, Jim

If you set up for dry camping for a day or two, I would suggest that you consider staying with the Indians in the "dry camping area" ($10) that they offer on a bluff overlooking the Mittens. It's awesome to watch a sunset and sunrise while sitting in your RV.

If not, then Gouldings is OK.

Incredible views from Gouldings. John Wayne stayed there while making his films. It was a number of years ago, but I remember the managers as being very helpful. Restrooms were clean and the grounds well kept--thought don't expect grassy sites. My husband decided he wanted to leave early (we had been there 3 days in July). He was just going to let the fee for the night go. I went up to the office just to tell them that they would have a site available (campground was full) and the lady said, "We'll do a credit on your card." I told her that wasn't the reason I was telling her, but she said, we are never empty and I know we'll fill it up by tomorrow and I went back and got my card.

We loved Gouldings. If you like the culture, take one of the Gouldings tours. If not really interested, maybe a stop by the visitor ctr of the park will be enough.

Like earlier poster said, the sites are not grass. They are red dirt - Not a place for white tennis shoes But we loved it. Great place to watch sunsets. Bathrooms very clean. INdoor Pool.

BTW, we bought jewelry at Gouldings store and while on the Gouldings tour that is beautiful. Later on at the Grand Canyon - the same sort of stuff was twice the price.

There was also beautiful pottery and rugs.

Gouldings is a wonderful place - good rv park, wonderful gift store, etc. We have been to the rv park three times - in site 34 all three. Great site.

First be sure to run thru Mesa Verde if you haven’t already – then a quick run by Mexican Hat on the way to Monument Valley – Gouldings CG was a pleasant surprise and Monument Valley is right up there with Canyon de Chelly (if you have the chance run by there also) you will need to be sure to bring your old John Wayne movies as he is still there.

So much to see in this part of the country so be sure to allocate enough time.

Hey Lauren! Everyone is going to start asking for site 34 and I was going to tell them that a friend recommended this site for first timers!

When you people get there you will see why I say site 34; but they are all good as far as I know - all three times there we have been in 34.

Mesa Verde is a long drive in and then you pay for tours - except one place. It is a day in itself.

There are many cliff dwellings all thru AZ & NM; most are far more accessible than MV.

Stayed at Gouldings in June and found it very nice. Be sure to take a Navajo guided tour (can book at the campground). I suggest the 1/2 day tour. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and The Searchers were shown on alternating nights free at the lodge when we camped.

Be sure to take in Mesa Verde and Canyon de Chelley if you can.
