Hi,

I have been looking for a cg in the Tampa area, w/in a 30 mile radius without much luck. Using rvparkreviews, it seems that there are a lot of negative comments on the cg's, but I know that there are other cg's not even listed, or the reviewers opinion may not be on target.

I have a 38' class a w/toad, want FHUP w/cable (no sat for me, yet), decent size site, pool, all for around $1k or thereabouts. I like to go to the Phillies spring training games in Clearwater, but am willing "commute" to games from cg (under 1 hr).

I am set for this season, I think, but I sure would like to get some suggestions from the forum members so I can check them out while I am down there this year for future winters.

Thanks, Kathy

We like Bay Bayou. I have no idea if they have any negative comments posted anywhere but we've been there before and it's a nice place.

Try Traveler's Rest in Dade City, about 30 mi North of Tampa.

It is a former "Airstream Only" park, but they now welcome all brands.

The park is reviewed in RV Park Reviews.

We are also looking for the Tampa area for this winter. Bay Bayou & Tampa East are 2 that we are looking at. Reviews are horrible on Bay Bayou but..... Different reviews on Tampa East - one that it is 55+ and another says it isn't.

Looking for 5-6 months any other ideas on that area?

I stayed at Bay Bayou for a couple of months a little better than a year ago. Shaded, clean and in an area with great access to both east and west locations. The staff was very friendly and the restrooms might just have been the cleanest I have seen. The rec room and pool were spotless and user friendly. It was early fall when I was there, so it might look somewhat different in season. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

We stayed at the Bay Bayou this past winter, was a nice pool and some activities in club house, not much more than bingo. The only negative I found was the washers and dryers were real old, they had three laundry fac and they were all out dated. I complained and they said they had called the service tech but he has not showed up. about 1/2 of the dryers had "out of service" sign on them and the others would take forever and a few day to dry. there was always a back up log waiting for dryers. Of course just up the street was a pretty nice laundry mat,and that is where we went. I would stay there again, in a pinch...

Stayed at Bay Bayou and Tampa East last winter. Other than the dryer problem I would say hands down Bay Bayou is a better value.

There are lots of RV parks on the Clearwater/Pinellas Park/Largo area.
Try Travel World, Yankee Traveller, Vacation Village aka Sunburst/Encore,
Lees Travel World, Avalon RV Park, Rainbow Village, all within l5/20 miles
to Phillies Training Field. Also, close to the ball field in St. Pete as
well as Dunedin. Lots more parks in Dunedin.

The price you quoted $l000 per what? season or month?

We stay in Vacation Village on Ulmerton Rd in Largo and it is central to most
everything. Ulmerton Rd is 25 miles long. That will take you to Indian Rocks
on the gulf to Howard Frankland Bridge to Tampa Airport.

Sorry not to get back to you sooner, actually the dryers were only complaint that we had, some of the time you did not know they were not working until you had started inserting money and then more money and then may lunch and still more money, maybe not that bad but certainly enough to have a tech there immediately, I never did see anyone fix one of those things. They look down their noses because I said something. I could go on but I think you get the picture.
BTW it is convient to Legend Field.(near Oldsmar) but if you plan on going to a game purchase your tickets early because they sell out fast. But the practice sessions are free and you do get to see some of the major boys hit a few balls. Have fun and I am sure that they have put in new dryers by now, just ask if you think it would be a problem for you....Most were friendly..
