I took Zachery to the vet today for his BG check, he's been doing fine, but when they went to draw the blood there was this rather large growth in the lower portion of his leg just above the paw.
I scheduled surgery to remove it on Friday morning at 11 am.
It will be sent out for testing so it will be a long waiting game.
This is so difficult since we lost Sofie just twenty days shy of a year ago, not sure I'm up to this again so soon and we just love this little guy so much.
When I came home I visited Sofie's grave and told her she could not have Zachery for a very long time, I wasn't ready to give her up and I'm sure not ready to give up Zachery no matter how much she may want him up there with her, she'll have him soon enough, she can wait a little longer.
Sorry this is so long, it's just very frustrating.
Prayers please
Sher

Prayers coming... it may be something or it may be nothing, old dogs get bumps, and a lot of them are benign. So resist the urge to get too into the fear... it won't help and may turn out to be totally unnecessary.

Hi Sher,
What a cutie pie Zachery is! Keep only positive thoughts and hopefully, all will be just fine. You do have our prayers from California too.
Just wondering, why do you have to wait till Friday to have the growth removed? That is a long, long time to sit and worry!
Best regards and well wishes for Zachery and you.

I know you're not going to "put it out" of your mind. You've just gone through losing a dog, and that will make you more inclined to fear the worst. However... you need to balance that (natural) tendency to focus on the worst outcome with a little reality check now and then, so you don't make yourself nuts in the next week. I just went through this, had a lump taken off of Tigger in early June. She's ten, and old dogs do get lumps, but it was right by a nipple. Made myself crazy, and it was nothing. Zip, Zilch, Nada. Totally benign. Zachary's lump may indeed be something bad ... or it could turn out to be nothing, or something that while not good, is also not all that bad.
Its been said that people experience a whole lot of unpleasant stuff... and some of it actually happens. The rest is all in our heads. All I'm suggesting is that you hang on to that for a few days, and when you get to the fear place, remind yourself that while it may be something, it may be nothing as well.

OK Susan, I understand what your saying but I'll probably drive myself crazy anyway, I think even if we hadn't gone through it with Sofie and in January with our cat Teddy I would still be upset, but I will keep telling myself that it's probably nothing...it has come out of the blue, so fast, he was at the vets three weeks ago and they know for sure it wasn't there, I groomed him the weekend before last so I know it wasn't there then so it's come on pretty quick.
The reason I opted for surgery on Friday was because I had an obligation to Jury duty but when I called after 5 pm today I was told I would not be needed the rest of the week.
So I will call first thing in the morning and see if they still have an opening for the surgery, hopefully they will.

BenBen just had a lump removed from his side and it was benign - nothing at all. Lets go with the idea Zach's is just a lumpy thing. Prayers sent your way. I understand your worry!

((( Sher ))) hopefully it will be a "fatty tumor" kind of thing that older dogs are sometimes prone to get. I know how worried you must be after everything you've been through lately with your pets.
It would be so nice if they could tell us hey this bump hurts or even better awe that ol' thing, that's not a problem mom, wouldn't it?
Prayers and high hopes coming your way for cute little Zachery!
