If your caught driving out of class they can and most likely will force you to park it.
The test takes some work and commitment but the piece of mind was worth it to me!
Yup. The Commercial CHP officer that popped me said he could have made me park it but let me go home (250 miles away) with a non-comm class A fix-it ticket instead.
I passed mine with all of the info I found on this board. Try the search.

I wonder how many people drive without them. I know I need to get one and I just keep putting it off. Every time I read one of these threads I tell myself it's time then let it slip on my list of SH*! to do. I would hate to leave my rig at the side of the road or worse have it towed away.

OK folks, let's put it straight. Do you drive your car unlicensed? Would you take that chance? CHP, the Sheriff's, and city Police know this is an issue and can stop you for any other moving violation. Once stopped, the door is then open for license issues. Parking your rig along the roadway, towing (at your expense for a big rig tow), and citation are all possible. The license is not difficult to get but you do need to study as no one will simply hand it to you. You're towing 1000's of Lbs of weight and subject to all the events that can happen on the road (blow-outs, others cutting you off, and winds just to name a few).
Your insurance company can walk away from you for driving out of class. Where does that leave you?
I posted the whole process awhile back (Jan/Feb of this year). This included tips for parelle parking, the pre-trip inspection test, and driving test. One tip was to find out what days your DMV office offers the driving test. Go down and park (back a ways) to observe the exmainer doing the pre-inspection test. You won't hear the questions but will see the process. Then simply follow the other guy during his driving protion of the test. Once you know the course you'll be able to search and note speed zones, locations of lane changes, starts and stops, and all the other parts of the test. You'll be able to test with confidence.
As they say "Just do it".
Good luck,
Hap

DITTO "Just do It!" not hard at all. You will spend 4 hours at the DMV and two hours of study. No big deal. If you tow your rig now you can do it at the DMV.

That's the best advice I've seen here in response to the licensing questions.

The California Highway Patrol from what I have seen is really cracking down on this issue, I have had a friend get removed from his truck, and call me to come drive his truck to avoid getting towed. I have had 2 friends get over weight tickets on HWY 127 out of Baker $$$$$
As others have said if you need it get it.

Could you elaborate on why they were cited for being overweight?
