We have had 4 TT's with no bunks and 2 with. We disliked having to deal with the dinette/couch thing every day. Our family would not have a TT without a bunkhouse. When the kids no longer camp with then my husband and I will get a TT that does not have a kid room. But for know we like our bunkhouse.

We're looking at buying a new TT. I was hoping for a rear kitchen/front BR model. My grand-daughter noticed the brochures and stated that she liked our old camper. Thinking I'd win her over I asked her what she liked most about the old camper; surely it would be better in the new one, right. She said she likes the bunk beds.

So, we have to have bunk beds.

I usually get up earlier than everyone else so it is a little bit of a pain to have the dinette and sofa occupied until everyone is awake.

Just got our 5er with bunks (not the extra bedroom type). Love um. Don't have to deal with bedding or where to put it during the day or with set up or take down etc of couch or dinnet. And when we don't have "guests" we have extra storage room. We are also able to free up the couch and dinnet to be able to play cards, watch TV etc when the bad weather hits and we want to "entertain".

My 13 yo son almost always bring along a friend. Ours has the bunk room slide so they can stay up late and watch tv and the DW and I can stay in the common area or go on to bed. IMHO with kids, bunks are great.

My kid likes the bunk. I would not be without it. Some friends have three kids no bunks and it is always a PITA getting up and going down. And the kid stuff is in mom & dads space.

I wanted a 5er w/ a rear LR, but the Mrs. wanted a BH model (based on her parents 5er at the time). Took kids to a RV show and they saw the model (in sig) and that was that. It's great for them to have their own room to watch tv, make a mess, do whatever and just have to close the door to not see the mess. Like OP's have said as well, it's nice not to have to maneuver around anything in main area to get to kitchen/table etc. Once the kids grow up, we'll use the bunks to store whatever for now. However, will eventually go to a rear LR.

Kids = bunkhouse. Rear Loungers are great floorplans for adults. Maybe if your kids are old enough to be self sufficient enough to set up and take down there own beds you can consider a lounger. However if the sleeping kids are going to occupy prime living areas a bunkhouse is still the better way to go. Hang on they are going to grow up and leave the nest soon enough

I am another in the BH camp. My first experience came with this many years ago staying in my parent's Class A. Back then I was on the table or the couch and always seemed like it was in the way. Always seemed like I was either putting sheets on or taking them off. Always seemed like if I was ready for bed they would be watching football etc. All of which are tiddly wink minor things but avoidable with a BH plan. Now I'm on the other end with my own.

Our first TT was a BH just out of coincidence. It basically came with a truck that I wanted so we got it and loved it. We traded it in recently and again went with a BH style floorplan only in a 5'er. The main reason for us was with a hybrid layout like we have we can have a couch in the back room with the airbed for the grand parents and bunks for the more agile kids. The grandparents love the couch's air bed more than they like their own bed! The bed can be folded up if we want more room for play in the back or we can leave it out and not have it interfere with the main function. The BH gives a slightly separate lounge area too and breathing room on a rainy gloomy day.

One day we may go with a plan that revolves a bit more around us without kids but for now we've got alot of family trips to go and the BH is just the right fit.

Our kids are grown now, and we never had anything but a popup when they were home. For just DH and me, we prefer no bunks, but if we had kids still at home, I think we would go that route as for reasons mentioned: their own space, more living area, and I wouldn't have to disturb anyone when I get up and make coffee!
