I don't have any specific recipes, but I understand your concern about the artificial sweeteners. I've had issues in the past with both aspartame and sucralose and try to avoid them. MSG is another problem that can cause some nasty effects. It is a challenge to avoid all of these products as they are in almost everything. It helps to buy fresh foods and cook things from scratch instead of using convenience foods.

I have been using saccharin for a long time with no ill effects. I've tried stevia, but just don't care for the taste.

As for desserts, fruit, fresh or frozen with the low calorie, low fat dessert topping is pretty good. It does have some sugar, but not much considering you aren't using a lot of it.

My doc said I should try not to drink more than 300 bottles of diet pop a day to avoid problems from to much non-sugar products. Just kidding he said use anything I like but as in everything in life moderation is the goal.

Been type 2 for 10 years without any side effects.

I checked out a book at our library about the dangers of using Splenda.
The author basically said that we are spooning out Splenda like there is no tomorrow, expecting no adverse problems to our health. They used the example of smoking cigarettes, and how for the early years everybody smoked thinking it was safe. Now, according to them, the Splenda problem is going to be the "Smoking Issue" of the future.

I've heard Stevia works well in recipes.

I didn't read all the threads here....but I need to make a comment. I, too, find I have problems using those products. My eyes get so blurry when I use Splenda that I've decided to NOT use ANY substitutes. Since I decided this I have lost 5 lbs. Understand -- by NOT using sugar substitutes, I'm losing weight!

As for the FDA -- I don't trust them. I lost 2 years of my life because of MSG and Aspertame. I was so sick I was within inches of applying for disability. We saw a program on 60 Minutes that showed someone who had the SAME symptoms as me -- and his problem was MSG. I went OFF any food that had food additives and within 3 days I was so much better. Six months later you'd have never known I had been in a wheelchair, going blind, and losing my mental faculties (something some people STILL question LOL). I did a "study" for the FDA...their questions were structured in such a way that if you didn't convulse or die, then they felt the additive was okay. I beg to differ with them....BTW I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Sure makes me wonder how many more people with those diagnosis would be well if they went off all food additives!

I'd bet that many ADHD and other children's problems are linked to these too! I had terrible insomnia from MSG in addition to other issues. I would be SO tired at night, but my brain just wouldn't stop - I felt like just my brain was on speed or something....and it kept me up most of the night. Now that I try to avoid MSG, I sleep MUCH better. By the way, chemically MSG and Aspartame are kissing cousins.....

Ladymc53- I think your responses could use some sweetener. There is no reason to be so sharp in your responses. Just because your source touts something as true, doesn't mean it is 100% truth.

my sister is a nurse/dietitian who holds workshops for diabetics in our area. She does a ton of research and works with doctors to find the best products and help for her patients. They tell people to use artificial sweeteners in moderation.

agave nectar and stevia are great natural sweeteners.

So you don't yell when you disagree with me and say what no recipe, here's one for you:

Homemade Sugar Free Jello with natural sweetner:

20 ounces (about 3 cups or 2 10-ounce bags) fresh or frozen fruit
3/4 cup agave nectar
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
2 tablespoons cold water

Reserve one or two of the best pieces of fruit for garnish. Put the remaining fruit and agave in a large saucepan. If using large fruits, such as peaches, cut into 1" chunks. Berries can be cooked whole.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the fruit is soft, about 10 minutes.
Put the water into a small bowl and sprinkle with gelatin. Let soften 5 minutes.
Add gelatin to hot fruit mixture and stir until gelatin has dissolved thoroughly.
Place in a bowl or individual serving bowls and refrigerate until set. Shallow containers will gel more quickly; deep containers will take longer.

I've also recently begun using agave nectar as a sweetener in some of my recipes and have been very pleased with the results so far.

So glad to hear so many people resonding to this subject. A few years ago my DH had an internal bleeding disorder and was told he would have to have blood transfusions every few months as they had no idea what was causing the problem. We did not accept that answer and turned to whole food nutrition for the answer. We now use Sunrider Herbal products (www.sunrider.com) and the whole family is using them. DH has gone gluten free and we eat mostly fresh fruits and veggies and lots of raw. Has never had one blood transfusion and iron levels are higher than ever!

We use no artificial sweetners, no artificial colors, nothing with hydrogenated fats, eat organic meats and use stevia and agave nectar for sweeteners. When we do use sugar it is evorated cane juice, or succanat, but try to stay away from sugar when we can.

Try eating mostly fresh fruits and veggies and getting the 'crap" out of your diet (which is a very very difficult task in this world) and you will be surprised how that sweet tooth will go away. And all other cravings as well. You will start craving salads and whole grains instead of "junk"! You won't miss the "sugary' snacks and fresh fruits will be "treat" enough.

A few books worth reading are "the seven pillars of health" by Don Colbert"

"Eat to live" and "disease proof your child" by Joel Furhman

"In defense of food" and "omnivores dilemma" by michael pollan

We need to educate ourselves as (I feel) the government is doing its best to keep america sick, more drugs, more doctors equals more money! No sick people is NOT good for the health care industry!

I have seen MANY people overcome MANY MANY diseases just by changing their diets and using whole food nutrition including the Sunrider Products.

Let me know if you ever want to learn more about Sunrider.

Interesting to see so many people with the wool pulled over their eyes which by the way is just what the FDA and other 'government' agencies have set out to do.

All the above ingredients discussed have 'serious' side affects. They present symptoms and are misdiagnosed as other ailments and doctors dispence drugs to mask them.

When all one has to do is remove these ingredients from their diets. Been there done that and prior to doing my own research spent many unnessary days in the hospital misdiagnosed when all I had to do was to stop ingesting these ingredients.

Answer to the OP try receipes using Agave.

While I agree with you that we all need to eat healthier, I think you're misguided on the above statement. The gov't has no financial interest in keeping people sick. The majoirty of health care costs are borne by the gov't in the form of Medicare and Medicaid. And hospitals lose money by taking care of sick people.

Are you a dealer of these products?
