I'll probably take a beating for this but I'm not a big fan of stuffed sopapillas (and I am a native of Albuquerque). Also, while I think Sadie's is OK, the best New Mexican food is at La Salita on Eubank. No atmosphere, just great food (best rellenos I have ever had). Just my opinion, but I do like Fords and Dodges. I've even owned a couple of Chevys. I guess that makes me well rounded?

You didn't put enough honey in your sopapillas. I can tell.

I like sopapillas with honey but I have never tried a stuffed sopa with honey. Maybe that would do the trick!

One more place to eat a great lunch when you're in the Old Town area is not really in Old Town but a couple of blocks away on old Rt. 66 (now called Central). There is a little hole in the wall place that has been serving the best green chile cheesburgers in the world for about 30 years and it is called Route 66 Malt Shop. Do not get them confused with the Rt. 66 Diner near the university (just so-so food). The Rt. 66 Malt Shop is located at 1720 Central Ave. just a couple of blocks from Old Town. If you like Reuben sandwiches, they have the best I have ever eaten. I had not mentioned them before because the topic was New Mexican food but I guess a green chile cheeseburger is New Mexican. The main thing to do in Albuquerque is to have fun.

I was there last year, and loved every minute. I was dry camping, facing the landing/target field. That was all good until I was taking a shower and a balloon flew overhead, very close, and did I mention my shower skylight????
In addition to the school bus shuttles that take you to the launch field, there were shuttles that went to Old Towne, cost $5. Good deal. Enjoy, Kathy

If you head north be warned that Rancho de Chimayo had a fire in July and I think is still closed.

We are there now, on the east edge of the old field. There are only a handful of us this evening but it will fill up fast in the next few days. We are in the white Sea Breeze LX with the HWYBNB plate. If you are around you are welcome to stop and say Howdy.
