Stuff happens out on the road. My outside duel tire shredded to pieces and ripped out everything in it's path in the wheel well.
I had road service come out and bring me a new tire rather then to change to the spare. My old tires were 245/70/R19.5 load range G.
He installed same size but with loadrange H.
I don't know if the tire is better or worse then the old ones.
I run 100 psi in all my tires. I'm in the proscess of buying new tires at this time.
The DOT rating is 6 years old now and 40,000 miles so I'ts time.
If you ask a tire dealer anything you get a different answere from each one, also they don't seem to understand why you want tires with the most recent DOT dates which are importent to RVers. I could use a little help here.
Dan.

As I type I am sitting in front of a tire store in Rio Vista Ca. They kinda specialize in trucks and heavy equipment. When I ordered my tires this week they had NO problem making sure that the DOT stamp was recent. I was told my tires are stamped march 2008. I haven't seen them yet the store doesn't open for a few more Min.
I don't see what the big deal is about getting tires with a recent date stamp.

Dan it was time for me to repalce my tires because of the date of manfacture. I went to Robinson Tire and talked to the salesman there and he tried to make me believe that tires don't start aging until they are put on the ground. He also said that all of their tires are kept in a warehouse and some of them might have been in there a year or more since they were produced. He did do some surching and the newest tires he could find were 4 month old. I tried to get him to discount them because they weren't new and he wouldn't. I went ahead and purchesed these even tho I understand that I shouldn't have bought tires older that 6 weeks old. The tires I replaced were 5 1/2 years old, had good tread and no weather cracks.
I have been RVing for a little over 26 years and have seen a lot of RV's that have had blow-outs and the damage it has caused. Check around and get the newest ones that you can find.
Good Luck,

Six week DOT stamp I think is asking for a bit much. 6 month would be very new. Going back a year on a warehoused tire would not be a problem.

Before you buy new tires, get your rig weighed.
A higher load range tire has many bebefits. It can carry your load with less air pressure is the main reason.
It would be good to know what kind of rig you have, what chassis and what it weighs front and back.

Send him this link and make him a believer Shelf-aged Tires Another poster was kind enough to provide it the other day. I'm going to tire shop this week and the first place I find that agrees with me will get my business and I'll let the other places know why I didn't buy from them.

IMO less than 6 months old is fine. That is what I get, even for my cars. I also get metal valve stems.
Personally I also do not use Chinese tires.

Last year I looked at and drove a 2000 DP that I was interested in purchasing. After driving the coach the salesman and I checked the tires among all the other outside storage bays. The tires were dated 1999 and I asked about putting new tires on the coach. The answer was the dealer's techs told the salesman the tires were perfect; no problem. Salesman knew the tires were seven years old but wouldn't budge. He ended up saying the coach owner would be asked about replacing the six tires since the coach was on consignment. He doubted the owner would replace them. I walked away.

I check on a new set, and the people at the tire shop...said no problem..on the date of manufacturer...all the tires for the RVs we have is manufactured in 08--I didn't look at them, but if I go back to buy, I will check them...I once looked at a set of goodyear that had been in his storage shed since 2005---told him I wanted new tires and he kinda got mad...needless to say, he didn't or will not get my business.
good travels to you and yours...keep em rolling...
