Nice Job! I was going to ask about the taping, but you answered that already. Thanks for sharing.

wils5150 wrote: yup Nascar did it myself a gallon of rustoleum gloss white, a pint of the gloss brown, high density foam rollers,a few rattle cans for tight reas, a whole lot of painters tape and finally time. work about 3 hours a night after work. so far I have about 15 hours into it. still have a bit more to do on the otherside.. should be done by next weekend if the weather is good here. the hardest most time consuming part is the tapeing. I figure I will have maybe $150 into it when I am done
What kind of surface prep did you have to do?

Rustoleum will look great for about a year, but it will chalk with sun exposure. But I don't know of anything you can put on with a roller in small patches that works better. The best paint you can use would be something like a two part urethane aircraft enamel, but that stuff isn't exactly DIY friendly, must be sprayed onto a compatible primer which must go onto bare metal. Waaaaaay too much work for what you're doing. I've got rustoleum on some of my trucks.

I think that's called a "Red Neck 'Earl Scheib' paint job"! A case of beer and 6 cans of spray paint! But in ur case, you done it real purdy!

He also says "You know your a red neck if you know exactly how many cans of spray paint it takes to paint a 1976 Chevy truck!"

Actually some of your marine paints will work for the DIY guys. Some are made to be rolled on and then tipped in with a brush. I understand they can turn out pretty well. I personally have not had much success with Rustoleum. didn't even get 6 mo out of it. Fortunatly aluminum will survive much better though.

Tractor Supply sells a line of industrial enamels that can be mixed with hardner, etc. I painted the loader frame on my tractor 10 years ago with it and still glossy.
