As some of you know I am selling my DP.
I have had quite a few calls and it amazing the differences in the questions they ask.
I have had two people ask about boat launching with the MH.
Now don't get me wrong I don't think I would try to launch a boat with a 39' DP but I guess it could be done.
It did get me to thinking about lauching a boat with a DP vs a gasser.
Gassers seem to have a longer overhang and that might help in launching but I would think that a DP would have more power to pull the boat out and up the ramp.
Any thoughts or experiance with this???

Not using a DP for boat launching is a great idea.

Most DPs don't have a lot of ground clearance, launch ramps are often fairly steep. I would worry about crunching the compartments.

I guess it depends on what size boat you're trying to launch :-) The gassers actually might be a disadvantage because the tongue of the trailer would be so high.
Like a diesel pickup, the torque makes thing much easier when it comes to boat ramps

I'm on my 6th motorhome and all of them launched boats. We're going to Lake Powell, Utah the first of the week for the second time this summer. Guess what I'll be launching the boat with. Of course, I take it to hunting camp also (gravel road and park off the road).

We have a 2006, 32' ford gasser, and a 22' deck boat, weighing 5k lbs. We have no problem getting the boat in or out. It struggles a bit getting the boat out, but not to unacceptable levels. Obviously caution and common sense are a must! We often launch fully loaded. Just getting there, MH loaded, boat loaded (gas and 30 gallons of fresh water), and launching after a bit of time to let the bearings cool down before getting in the water. No problem other than the challenge of backing up. Piece o' cake...

I saw a real nice Class A up to the roof in Canyon Lake, east of Apache Junction, AZ 4 years ago who tried it. The only good point was that the boat was floating fine. I wouldn't risk it, but different strokes....
