This is my first RV and wonder if I can pull it with my 2000 Chevy 1500. Has GVWR 6400; Max Trailer wt of 8500; Trailer Dry wt of 4730 with about 2000 lbs. I live in Colorado so I heard I decrease the Max trailer wt by 10% because of altitude? Any personnal experiences out there? Am I pushing the envelope? Any help will be appreciated.

You won't win any races in the mountains. Out here we're just fine (see our sig) in the rolling hills of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Our trailer weighs in just under 5,800 lbs loaded. I figure if we head your direction we'll be going minimum legal speed at the pass but we'll get where we're going.

you wont have any problems.. it might not have a whole lot of throttle left for passing but i see people with that combo all the time and not a lot of complaints.

I would pull that.

Leave adequate room in front of you for stopping. That would go for anything you pull though.

Enjoy your new rv!

What motor, what gears? Factory tow package? Generally yes you can tow it no problems.

That's real close to what you see in my sig, assuming your TV is similar. I have no problems in the Rockies. I can go up almost any normal grade in 2nd at 50 mph. A few of those really steep mountians, I've had to drop into first. But those diesel's pulling 5ers sure do whip by me! Just don't think you have a speedster and you will be fine.

Yes you can. I used to have an 01 1500 with the small 4.8L V-8 and I pulled my 25' Toy Hauler of about the same weight as yours just fine. As previously said, you won't win any races but you'll do just fine.

did it for a couple years, wouldn't recommend it. 21' toyhauler, 2 fullsize quads, 1500 sierra, 5.3l, 3.73.
like others said it got the job done, but usually at about 6-7mpg, and a lot of time in 1st at 35mph on the big passes. Also lost 1 rear end and tranny went at 80k, even with meticulous fluid changes.
Presumably your gonna put some toys in you new RV, which increases the weight quickly.
I'd go 3/4 ton if you can.

You guys are kidding right? A 4,000 lb trailer can't be pulled by a half ton? My TH weighs in at 3500 lbs, plus the Teryx at 1,200, plus all my food and supplies, its probably somewhere around 7k. My half ton Titan pulls it like a dream, like its not even there. Also, wanted to add I do NOT have the factory tow package and have crappy 2.937 gear ratios in the rear. Am I pushing it too, just because it feels OK? My truck achieved 9 MPG on my recent trip to Pismo.

EDIT: I also have a 6.5" lift and 35" tires which decreases tow capacity even more. So am I asking for trouble?
