We have a 2008 Jayco Recon and have had carbon monoxide problems since day 1. Jayco came and took the unit back to the factory for repairs. After 6 weeks, they are sending it back next week and say they continue to get carbon monoxide readings, even after resealing areas, when in "tight" spaces unless the Genturi pipe is used. Here's my question...should I always have to use the Genturi? I am wondering if anyone else has a fifth wheel hauler with an Onan generator that ALWAYS has to use the Genturi? It seems to me that carbon monoxide must still coming in the unit if the pipe must always be used to get "zero" readings. We have installed additional digital detectors and only get readings in the front bedroom. Any responses would be most appreciated.

If Jayco did a good job sealing things and that's still happening, there's a pretty good likelihood there is negative pressure in the trailer and the carbon monoxide is seeping through the seal in the slide. I'm not familiar with the Recon, but it could be your gen box isn't completely sealed. As your engine draws air in to cool it off, it could be drawing some of that air from the trailer through the basement causing a slight negative pressure.

Just a thought.

FWIW, we always use the Genturi. Everyone we know does, too.

I had issues with our Raptor, dealer adjusted the tail pipe and it helped but I never trusted it unless the wind was moving along pretty good. I just made my own Gen-turi and used it every time. I'm a bit surprised that Jayco took so long to do nothing.

I thought the same thing as far as the length of time they had our rig. The Onan people also came out and there isn't anything wrong with the generator or the generator box. I plan to use the Genturi, but I don't think I should HAVE to in order to feel safe. Jayco said no unit is airtight...I understand that, but I am curious if others can use their generators without the Genturi system and not have CO problems. I will have to test our rig using the Genturi myself before anyone will sleep in it. Any other replies would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have no problems running the generator without a Genturi. I guess I would not mind having to use the Genturi in certain situations but everytime would be a hassle.

Thanks. What type of hauler and generator do you have?

I have a 2005 26 ft Rage'n TH with the 5500 Onan and I don't use a Genturi pipe, and never had any problems. But now reading this thread, it sort of makes me want to get one. Anyone know where I could get one in Las Vegas?

I'm having the same issue on my 2008 Cougar 310SRX. I installed a Onan Microlite 4000 in my camper this summer. My first dry camping trip was at the Brickyard for 3 days. I didn't have to run genset all night because the nights were cool but I would start it up around 9:30 every morning and run it non-stop until about 3:00am and everynight around 2:00am the carbon monoxide detector would start going off. It did that all 3 nights.
On my next dry camping trip to the Bristol Race for 6 days the detector went off twice fairly early in the trip and it was at night also. I had a couple of big fans that I took for using we were outside sitting under the awning. I took one of the fans and placed it under the camper to help push the exhaust away from the camper and never had another problem the rest of the trip.
I also put an extra detector in the camper on the second trip. The thing that amazes me is the genset will run all day and early evening without any problem but late at night is when I'm having issues.
My next purchase will be a genturi to see if that will help.
