I like both floor plans. However, the storage box on the cheyenne adds a lot of extra storage. Will the the extra weight in the box create too much tongue weight? I'm a little concerned since my TV has a 3500# towing capacity. Anyone with comments about storage problems in their PUP?

The storage box adds a tremendous amount of storage and convenience. I would get the storage box. Having said that both pup's are very close to your max tow capacity. Ideally, you only want to tow 75% of your max tow weight.

As a matter of fact the Cheyenne comes with a VERY low tongue weight:
Quote:

Box Size 10 ft
Gross Veh. Weight Rating3,000 lbs
Unloaded Vehicle Weight2,035 lbs
Unloaded Tongue Weight130 lbs

So this is one of Fleetwood's trailers that really needs a friction sway control to give the trailer some towing manners.
Even with a propane cylinder and a battery it still doesn't have the required 10% tongue weight to tow with out the sway control.

Fleetwood recommended that the storage box have some sort of load in it to increase tongue weight while towing to eliminate sway. This is especially true when towing the empty unit home from the dealership. They recommend you bring something heavy to load in the box. My dealer friend told me that.

The Fleetwood front storage trunk popups have been notorius for needing sway controls. Get one.

The Cheyene has a GVWR (max loaded weight) of 3000 pounds - so depending upon whether or not your 3500 tow rating gets subtractions for extra people etc. I would think you should be fine.

When I brought my Cheyenne home on the interstate with my old Explorer it had some sway problems. With nothing in the front, it is not a problem for me to lift the tongue with one hand. Loaded correctly with the Silverado running a 2" drop, I don't use sway control and the camper tows like it isn't even there.

I also have a cheyenne and I usually keep the storage box loaded when towing and can get to about 70 without it swaying. I love the storage box and couldn't imagine a p/u without one. I just love the extra space.

The additional storage on the Cheyenne comes in handy, especially for hauling wet or dirty items for the ride home. You may be right on the edge of towing safely with your vehicle. You need to check the GCWR capacity of your vehicle and make sure you add all weight including passengers and cargo.
I just picked-up my Cheyenne and had no issues with sway when empty or modrately loaded. My tow vehicle for that trip was a 2009 Colorado V8 (I work for GM). With my usual tow vehicle (Silverado) you hardly know the camper is there.

it was the storage box that sold me on the cheyenne. It has also been my biggest problem (a leak, cracked abs). The new models don't have the abs box, so you will be fine. Inside the lid of my cheyenne there is a notice about not loading more than 150 pounds in the storage trunk. I have a gray water tank, my Bal leveler, chairs, lantern,... other stuff. It is a great unit.
