Googled your PUP and GVWR was 2,287 lbs. Without anymore info on your van... can't help too much! You need at least the 3.3l engine. if you have the 3.8l you'll be fine. If you don't have the tow package; you'll need to add a tranny cooler and most likely an anti-sway device for stability. Hope this helps.

Here's the link to the 176ST. I don't think they have changed much since 99.

I towed my coleman cheyenne for two years with the dodge caravan with the 3.3 engine and it seemed to do just fine, a little rough on steep hills, but fine on the highways. Mine has trailer brakes and I would recomend your camper have them as well. I never got the tranny cooler, but I took it easy when towing and never had a problem. I have since upgraded to the 3.8 and it's quite better as far as the hills are concerned.

I have decided to get the better PUP that was gently used I can always add on a air conditioner next year. But this is the one I went with if anyone has impute. I think I am going to hold of on trailer brakes right now. I am getting the tranny cooler because I do have 111,000 miles on this Caravan.

Trailer brakes are more important than a transmission cooler in my opinion.

I wouldn't advocate towing more than 1000 pounds without trailer brakes, especially with a Chrysler minivan.

Safety is more important than longevity.

Hey, finally a topic I feel I can reply to!

We just bought a Palamino Mustang, GVR of 2700 dry. We pulled it on a 7 hour trip over labor day weekend with our 2005 Dodge Caravan. We had a transmission cooler, trailer brakes, and a hitch with a sway bar installed. I have to admit, it's a little tough on the van, but it did okay. Kicks into passing gear quite a bit, but it handles okay. I'm positive you will need trailer brakes. I would have been a nervous wreck without them. Most of the Caravans and Plymoth Grand Voyagers have a max towing capacity of 3500 lbs with the right hitch, tranny cooler and trailer brakes.

Hope that helps!
