I love baked potatoes and had cooked two for son in law this weekend.. nuked them a bit and then finished them on the hot grill with the steaks..
So I decided tonight I wanted one LOADED with chili and all that.. I nuked it for 3 minutes,, then let it cool a bit and buttered it,, put sea salt on the outside, like normal, and threw it in the toaster oven for apx 30 minutes.. took it out sliced it open ,, and DANG,,
the inside was still sort of hard/uncooked... Ate it anyway,, but what happen? ( out of the same bunch I did yesterday. )

my micro wave cooks baked potatoes with the touch of one button. they come out nice and soft and moist. I would say you didn't have them in the MW long enough, but then I've been wrong before. I just don't quite remember when that was.

Next time just leave it in the microwave instead of going to the toaster oven with it. Shouldn't take over about 8-10 minutes in the microwave depending on size of tater.

I totally agree that a microwave will bake a potato fine,, BUT the skin doesn't get the same texture as oven cooking and that was what I was going for.. so, OK I will just nuke it longer next time.

Forget the microwave. Wrap it in tin foil. Bury it in the fire, wait 35 miniutes. Get it out. Best tater ever.

I agree that the skin does not taste as good as when it has been baked in a regular oven.. and to me, the potato skin is the best part of a potato.
I can't understand why some folks scoop out the insides and don't eat the skin.. that's just plain weird..
I usually **punch a bunch of holes in the tater** with a fork and nuke it for an even 10 minutes on high if it's a size 1 or size 2 baking potato.. Size 3 and smaller take less cooking time of course..
**if you forget to punch several holes in that tater before putting it in the microwave, you are likely to have a mess to clean up when it explodes and coats the inside of the microwave. Been there, done that..
After it has cooled enough to handle, I split the potato open and smother it with things like cheese, bacon bits, butter, broccoli florets or some type of veggie..
Then place it in my little counter top toaster oven for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
The butter melts, the cheese melts, the veggies steam ..(from the moisture of the tater and butter) and most important... the tater skin gets nice and crispy-crunchy..
Serve with an ice cold beer and black olives on the side... life just don't get any better that this..

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.
