I snapped off a lug bolt on my PU last weekend while changing a flat tire on our way to Janes Island State Park, MD. The camping trip was fun but now I have the task of trying to fix the wheel. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to replacing the bolt? I think it's something I can do myself.

Any that I have replaced were fairly simple. Take off the drum, knock the broken stud back through the hole and drive the new stud in. Be sure to get the right stud because there are different sizes. The studs are knurled that keeps them in the hole... It worked for me...

Not too hard. After taking the wheel and drum off, use a heavy hammer and drift to punch the remains through. When installing the new one, buy a small stack of washers and PULL the new stud in. You can reverse the lug nut so the flat side runs on the washers and adjust the stack so the nut keeps pulling in threaded areas. I've replaced them on the road in about 10 minutes. You should be able to get the stud in NAPA.

One more point. Broken stud is usually sign of some idiot tire dealer who doesn't know what a torque wrench is. Be careful as they may have overtightened ALL the studs, and you have trouble awaiting you. Personally I change ALL the studs when I find one broken. They are cheap, and drum is already off.

I don't know what brand of popup you have but on my Coleman by Fleetwood the studs in the brake drum do not go all the way through because of the electric brakes. The brake magnet has to have a flat surface inside the drum to rotate on so the studs on the axle on my camper are just threaded into the drum from the outside. The hole does not go all the way through the drum. On a car with drum brakes the studs can be from the inside out and pressed in because they do not have to have a magnet riding on the surface behind the studs.
