I'll post a link to a better TR, but the short version is I ended up twisting my ankle with 3 miles to go to the 1st camp. My buddy picked me up at the next road crossing.

It was a wonderful day for the most part but pain will slow an old guy like me down. I stopped when it wasn't fun any more

That's too bad, but you have a good attitude.
No point in making a death march out of it.

We had a good day Saturday, but got soaked overnight.
My 45 lb pack weighed about 60 with all the wet gear.

There's always next time.

Cheers,

Sounds great. I'm doing the same this year, though not as ambitious. Just a long day hike near the Holy Waters in Northern Michigan. I'm looking forward to reading you trip report. - Dave

Where's the Holy Waters. I love Michigan. Is this near the Aux Sable?

What food brand do you purchase? I'm always looking for new ones. These sound good. Do you buy online? Link?

Bummer. I'm past the days when I could backpack with even 40 pounds, but I cheer for anybody who can and does. Good luck on your next birthday, if you don't go again even sooner!
