What size BIG RIG are you guys driving that you can't use the RV islands? I only have a 40' now and last one was 42.5' with toad and never have a problem. Maybe it's the location, I have only used the ones from Texas east. How many of you that say it is too tight have actually used the RV lanes instead of just looking and thinking it is too tight?
With our coach and toad, we are almost exactly 65' and twice we got into a FJ RV island and could NOT exit, until the cars legally parked in front of the island were moved, and several other times we had to wait while the RVer went to buy food, after fueling, so we don't take a chance now. We just pull into the truck island, fill and pull ahead like any other big rig without a chance that some idiot is going to block me in.

Just filled up in the RV lane here in Ft. Pierce and got the cash price with my regular credit card. Had no problem pulling in/out, in fact some of the truckers are using the RV lane to get the lower price using their credit card and not having to pay cash.

We use our Pentagon Federal credit card and get 5% off of diesel regardless, so if they drop the cash price, we can still get a hefty discount by using this credit card. I don't know of any other credit card that offers 5% off of diesel. Plus we get that whopping 1 penny off with the RV card! Oh boy!

I guess we'll try the RV lane and see if we get the cash price.

Our letter from Flying J stated that after Sept 1, we would only get the cash discount with a Flying J credit card in the truck lanes. We'll use the RV lanes until our J credit card comes. We figured some one had abused the system.

Don't hold back, tell us what you really think.

I for one will continue to fillup at Flying J as they are usually the lowest price and only the old stations are difficult in getting into the RV Pumps.

No kidding. Why snivel over the vagaries of the penny discount program when the price is already 20 cents lower than the competition?

Does your Pentagon Credit card cut you off at $75.00?

Please allow me to further clarify my original post -
Yes you will still get the cash price in the diesel truck lanes if you in fact pay with cash. What has changed is the fact that FJ has always (in my case anyhow) given me the cash price with the use of a credit card on the truck lanes. Now, the RV lane(s) continue to give the cash price with the use of a credit card (...or cash of course).
I don't use cash for fuel (or for that matter I don't use cash for 98% of my purchases) since I get no cash rebate with cash; whereas I do with the use of my cards (AMEX; M/C; and Visa all have a 1% to 5% cash rebate for me). Why anyone would be willing to give up an additional 1% to 5% on fuel purchases totally escapes me. It is truly great every year when I get those cash rebate checks which all together this year were in excess of $1,800 - sure beats 'nothing' (as in zero, nada, zilch, nutin'!). But then, to each his own.
What is so upsetting, is that if I could use the RV pumps then I can use my cards and get the cash price, but since my coach is too long for FJ's RV pumps I MUST use the truck lanes, and since FJ is unable to control the use and operation of their own "loyalty" cards (i.e., the RV Rewards card), then RVer's such as myself are "penalized" by FJ.
Obviously, the real answer for me is to vote with my feet if you will, which I certainly intend to do now.

caflyfisher:

There is something wrong with your math. First almost all of the credit cards have a limit on the rebates. Some do not cover diesel fuel. Some do not cover all your purchases. Using 2% as an average for your rebates, your $1800 equals $90,000 of purchases in one year. Unless you are the Donalad that is a lot of moola. Add in vehicle payments, mortagage payments, life and health insurance and you are leading one luxurious lifestyle. OR maybe you made an error in the calculations.

No error in my math Moisheh.
I have four (count'em - 4) cards that offer a cash rebate.
I have two (that is - 2) cards that offer me a 5% cash rebate on fuel including diesel.
I have one that offers a cash rebate of 3%, including diesel.
I have one that offers 1% including diesel.
I think that adds up to 4 cards.
I think that shows a 1% to 5% cash rebate.
The cash rebate given earlier includes items outside of fuel (I do not intend to spend hours on breaking out the fuel. This is not an audit (...yet).
The cash rebate on diesel fuel for the coach is approximately $900.00
The issue point was on getting a cash rebate.
But given fuel only it equals about half of the total rebate received.
Again, $900 is, IMHO anyhow, better than no rebate at all (as in nada, zilch, zero, and of course nutin').
Finally, let me say the figures given are correct. No problems with math or computations.
But then again, getting back on point, the post was about suspension of cash pricing of fuel on the truck lanes at Flying J. Not about MY cash rebates and the accuracy thereof. Hope this helps.
