We would love to go to Texas for winter and Gate Gaurd. Does anyone know how we go about applying. If you have done the job what are your thoughts.

We worked at the gate house at Tropic Winds in Harlingen, TX. the winter of 2005/2006. Could try there, although I'd think this time of the year they would have everyone.
It was the easiest job we have ever had.
So why didn't we go back? We did like the job, the manager, and the people. Just didn't like the wind. Or as people there called it "breezy". Didn't like the humidity either. But if you don't mind 20 plus mph "breeze" and humidity, the RGV is for you.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but what is gate guarding or gate keeping... besides the obvious.

Actually skipit, it is the obvious. You park your RV at the gate to an oilfield or other facility and you handle access to the location. The only "down side" I've seen written was that one of you has to be there all the time. There are some companies that do the same thing with construction sites.

or the other obvious.......they close campgrounds (state and federal) in the winter in various states, but still allow day use access....so you park your rig in a campground that is closed to camping and open the gate at ?AM and insure park is empty and close the gate at ?PM, and keep an eye on things.......sometimes they give a stipend sometimes they pay and sometimes you just get your FHU site for free.
Those seem like good gig's.........

Back to Linley's question, where do you apply? I've heard the most of the jobs like this are with the Army Coprs of Engineers, are there any other?
