Has anyone had any bad experiences when trying to use their medicare
in states other than your domain state.
I hear Alaska is very hard to find a Dr. that will take medicare.
Any other states that you have had problems with.
I plan on visiting Ak next year.
thanks,
Mike

DW is disabled with chronic ailments and is a frequent user of medical svcs as we travel (11 yrs as a FTer). She has had medical services in 38 states in that time, all under Medicare/medigap coverage, and Medicare has never, not once, been an issue with any doctor, hospital, critical care facility, rehab facility, home nursing, lab, ambulance or medivac air service. Domicile state is irrelevant.
Haven't been to AK with her since we think there's too big of a gap for her between American/Medicare covered medical services.

Have traveled in 47 states and used medicare/tricare in many of those. Some doctors will not "accept" medicare/tricare, but medicare/tricare will reimburse you their set rate for the Dr. All emergency rooms at a public or semi-public hospital are required to accept medicare/tricare, so for travelers that is the best option. If you are on tricare or have tricare as your supplement, then you are also covered in Mexico, Canada and all other foreign countries.

Please tell me more about your above statement about being covered by Tricare in Mexico, Canada and all other foreign countries. I'm assuming that you mean that you're reimbursed after paying for the treatments in a foreign country. I've never found that Tricare will pay upfront for services in a foreign country. Maybe the information that I received is incorrect. Please let me know. We spend 6 months of the year in Mexico and if Tricare covered upfront it would make traveling so much easier and less stressful if you have an illness. Thanks, Lindy
