Ford has just released their tow & haul ratings for their 2009 1/2 ton due in November. Max. payload is 3030lbs. & max towing is 11,300 lbs. Unbelievable for a 1/2 ton truck.

Hmmm - guess they're trying to give the "riceburners" a run for the money.

If this trend continues, the 3/4 ton truck might become history. With the increased payload and tow stats, you might just consider the 1/2 or 1 ton TV. The way it stands now, there is not much difference between the two, 1/2 or 3/4 models.

Yes very unbelievable.
If you need to tow 10,000lbs, you need a 3/4 ton truck. I wouldn't tow 11,300 lbs regularly with ANY 1/2 ton truck.

Fords F150 has had a payload of 3000 lbs since 2004. The total towing wt in 2004 was 10,000 lbs. They keep raising the tow rating to keep up with of competition.
This capacity is on the HD F150 2 wd with a GCW of 15300 lbs.

Not sure why you think it's unbelievable since they've been doing this since the 2004 model year and doing it successfully. I've got 80,000 towing miles on mine while towing 90% of their rating and never had a break down of any kind. Keep in mind that all the tow ratings are is a means of determining what you can tow and they'll still honor the warranty. Just remember though not ALL of the models have the 3,000 lb. payload. It's only the regular cab with the HD option that has that capacity.

I think it's unbelieveable because I find 11,300lbs to be too much of a load for ANY 1/2 ton. Sure every now and then I have been known to overload a truck for the occasional load from the gravel quarry, wood lot etc. But if you need to tow 10,000 lbs on a regular basis, you need a 3/4 ton truck to do it. Of course this is just my opinion and others may vary, and obviously yours does.
I know all about your towing history Skip, and I also know your truck is somewhere between a 1/2 and 3/4 ton, not a typical 1/2 ton. I would call it a 5/8s ton. Does Ford still offer those? With the seven lugs and such? Is that the HD option? Is it available in any other trucks besides regular cabs? I don't know the exact process used to rate 1/2 ton or 150/1500 versus 3/4 ton or 250/2500, but obviously your truck blurs the line. Ford used to call those light duty 250s, and was probably a more correct rating. Also, I thought you recently had an issue with your truck not starting. Battery wasn't it? I remember the brakes too. Both not big deals and your truck has obviously served you well. But even your load is not 10,000+ is it?
But I digress, and my opinion remains unchanged. If I had a 10,000 lb plus trailer to tow on a regular basis, it would have a 3/4 ton truck in front of it regardless of brand.

I JUST DON'T GET IT, if the GCVR is 15,300# and the tow rating is 11,300#, what does the truck weight? I find it hard to believe it only weights 4,000#

I think some folks are hung up on the designation "1/2 ton, 3/4 ton and 1 ton". The name has very little to do with their relative capability!
