Lately I've had trouble getting my generator started and running. I prime it but it will only start and run for a few seconds. If I continously hold down the start button, it will start and stay running. It does flash a code, 1 flash followed by 4 quick flashes if I'm reading it correctly.
Any ideas what to look for or fix? I've got about 385hrs. on it

Here's a fault code 14 - overfrequency thread that should get you started.

You can start by posting the whole modl/spec/serial number so we'll know exacty what you have.
Is it fuel injected or carbureted?
Check your manual and be sure you are reading the fault code correctly.

You don't mention how often you exercise the genny, so I have to think it might be carboned up or dirt in it. I would get a can of Sea Foam Gas Treatment (WalMart now carries at $5.66) or Advance Auto, CarQuest. I would add a can top my tank and let it mix up. Then I would try again to start. Let us know what the codes turn up and when you have it running again.

I'll try that and keep ya posted. It's carbed, I run it monthly. it's just hard starting, once it's running everything is fine. sometimes I get a code of 3 flashes, which means "service" What type of service?
