We get 7-9.5 no toad 6-8 with toad relatively flat terrain. Mileage worse over 65 mph (tetsosterone makes the 65 mph hard to do) a mile or so under the expressed values.

Checking MPG on any single or even a few tanks is often inaccurate. The 80% fill suggested by some is not an issue if it is consistent.
The issue is that even a one degree difference slope in the pavement at different pumps can change by many gallons how much fuel it takes to bring the fuel level to exactly the same place in the filler neck.
We record fuel MPG on every drop that has ever gone in our tank. BUT I only rely on MPG calculated on a minimum of 2000 miles.
I also fill up at the same station at the same pump (just because it is convenient and near where I store the coach)just before storing it, so "trip" averages are pretty valid.

Maybe you are the one lying! Since cummins worked on my ECM I get around 8-8.5. And 250MPG down hill.

I get about 7.5 on flat roads towing a Liberty....much less in the mountains....Mine is a Cummins 400ISL. About 32,000 with the jeep

I don't personaly own a CAT but my neighbor has a 40 foot Fleetwood with a CAT (360 I think) and he always gets about 1/2 MPG less than I do. I have averaged 7.6 (over 12,000 miles) towing a Jeep throughout the 11 western states. Best ever was east bound, got 8.8 not towing and worst was west bound, towing with headwinds > 6.9. Now that fuel is high, I am trying to drive 60 or less and on just one trip to Oregon we averaged 8.1. Not really much of an improvement, but this number was only based on 1500 miles. My TOTAL weight averages 36,500

dropping down to under 65 from 75 improved mileage from5.9to 6.9. Not worth the ffort to constantly watch the speed. Just set the cruise at whatever speed limit is and try to forget about fuel consumption.

It drives me "nuts" to hear someone tell me that they checked their MPG on one (or two) tank(s) of fuel. And then claim they know what mileage they get.
I KNOW my MPG. Because I've recorded every gallon, price, location and date of every fill-up since we bought our DP. Anal? Maybe ... but I've been doing it on every vehicle I've ever owned since 1954. Cars, motorcycles, motor homes, etc.
It's just something we do.

I find it interesting about all the number figuring and all. I installed the VMSpc and was told this was more accurate then trying to hand figure it. I thought the big rigs had the trip tek is it not accurate? BTW My sweet little ride gets 10.5 avg towing :-)

I also agree with Don. We too did the Alaskan trip this summer (almost 5 months and a little over 9500 miles) and I filled my tank (usually when it was about 1/2 full) 28 times. Of those 28 times, I registered an mpg of over 11 and a couple of 6.7's. Over the entire 28 fill-ups however, I averaged 8.7. I definitely contribute the 11 to not being able to fill the tank as full as I did on the previous fill-up, and the 6.7's to actually filling the tank more than I did on the previous fill-up. Confusing?
Actually, during one portion of our trip, I averaged well over 50 mpg.. ..of course the MH was riding on one of the Alaskan Marine Highway ferries and the only time the MH was running was to load/unload on the ferry and a short jaunt to the rv park at each of the stops (Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan and Prince Rupert) .
In any case, for accurate mpg, you must do it over a multiple fill-up condition or else the readings will be false. Of course the exception is if you can fill up at the exact pump each and every time.... then you can get good readings.
